Ottawa Dog Rescue

Ottawa Dog Rescue is fantastic with so many great volunteers. I was very excited about a dog as we waited for many years to have the time for a pet. With travel and our jobs we didn't want to adopt until we were 100% avaiable. With our resent retirement we found what we thought was the perfect dog for us. Unfortunately we were told since we lived 2.5 hours away that we wouldn't even be considered. We we heart broken. I just wish the animal shelters would be more open to out of towners. We were prepared to travel and to have the home inspection by our own shelter, but we were denied. Hope the dog gets a great home as we would of been great given the chance. I understand they are looking out for the pet but our shelter has no dogs and seldom gets any so how do we adopt from a shelter?

Having worked with this rescue, I am very impressed with their volunteer team and care for the animals. I have been a foster as well as assisted them in helping dogs from other countries and they provide excellent to fosters. They truly care about finding the best forever home for each animal in their care. Very transparent and reputable rescue. Keep up the great work ODR!

What an amazing organization. We adopted our new dog Frankie. The process was detailed and I appreciate that. Not just finding a home but finding the right home and the right match.Everyone we worked with was really nice and professional. Answered all of our questions and was honest so we know what we were signing up for. Can’t thank you all enough!

I wish I could give a better review, but so far our experience hasn't been very positive. I have submitted two applications, I have heard nothing on either. I do not know at what point I should just move on to another rescue. I have two rescue dogs at home, never have I had to wait a month to even get an initial response to know if we can even meet the dog to see if they would be a good fit for our family.I understand that ODR is volunteer based, but so were the other rescues I've dealt with and I received a response within a week.

I have adopted two dogs from ODR. The first one is a boxer, Shelby who has been a challenging dog since day one. ODR was very upfront with letting me know her history and quirks that they were aware of. Within the first couple of weeks we had some issues with her being reactive. I reached out to ODR for advice and they did an excellent job of supporting me and giving me guidance. They, in my opinion when beyond what they needed to do to help us adjust and they were very clear that they would except Shelby back if needed. We have invested in training and are in a great palce with Shelby. The 2nd dog we adopted was a puppy. Willow was vetted and up to date when we got her. I am VERY happy with our experience with ODR. I feel they take the time to find a good match for not only the dogs but also the people involved. Thank you ODR.

Adopted our girl just over two years ago and we couldn’t be happier! The process was amazing and the people we dealt with and foster family were all great. I can’t believe some of these negative reviews. I just have to laugh at people taking time out of their day to spread negativity about a dog rescue when they aren’t chosen as a potential match. Bitter and sad people. I’m glad the process is thorough in order to weed out selfish people like that. My experience was great and have already recommended ODR to many friends and family members looking to adopt. Keep up the great work!

We had a great experience adopting our dog through Ottawa Dog Rescue, the foster home we met as well as the management at ODR were warm, honest and very helpful throughout the entire process! They take great care in matching their dogs to homes that will be the best environment for that dog to live a happy life; true animal lovers doing great work! Thanks to all the volunteers who take time out of their lives to make sure these dogs live happily ever after!

We adopted our beautiful, sweet Charlotte, English Bulldog, as a palliative care, not knowing how long she'd be with us, days, weeks or months, in early 2020. Turned into a year and a half of a wonderful life with her. ODR was thorough in their adoption screening.

I applied for a dog and didn't hear back as per their policy. 5 weeks later I visited their site and saw that the dog I applied for was still available. I can understand someone being a better fit but I cannot understand leaving a dog in rescue rather than speaking to an applicant.

We adopted the best dog. I recommend Ottawa dog rescue!
