The Dosa Shop
I am glad I came across this place because it absolutely is the best Indian food on Whyte Ave! And you can trust my opinion on this, because I grew up in Mumbai in a foodie family. There are so many good things to say but I want to start off with the actual space itself because as soon as I entered this restaurant it felt like I was transported to Mangalore. It is cozy and the mismatched (not sure if deliberate) colour schemes just add to the energy. The owner was super welcoming and friendly and was happy to chat with us about their special dishes and tailor them to our preference.I ordered the Lamb thali with chapathi while my husband ordered the chicken combo with masala dosa. Both dishes were served with an additional veg curry (choice of 2-3 options) , rice and salad. Both the lamb and chicken curries were flavourful. Surprisingly my favourite was the eggplant curry that accompanied my thali. The chapathi, dosa and rice were all great too. I think the only thing I didn't love was the chutneys (sauces) that the dosa came with. The portions are generous too.I did make the mistake or ordering chai alongside the meal and then ignoring it until it got cold. Avoid doing this and possibly order your chai after the meal, it is quite delicious.I cannot wait to back and try their fried fish!

Stopped by while visiting a friend in Edmonton, such a great little place! Wonderfully friendly and some of the best South Indian I've ever had. Light and not oily, amazing food, surprised it wasn't full of people.

Incredible experience! This is truly a hidden gem in Edmonton and maybe all of Alberta. Haven’t seen any similar specialized restaurant in a while. The Dosa Shop is a unique South Indian food restaurant. Their menu is so diverse and full of flavors that are sure to satisfy everyone. They can adjust the spice level according to preference. Will definitely be returning here, highly recommend this restaurant. We tried the chicken combo with dosa, came with 2 curries, rice and chutney - same with the vegetarian option. Also tried the Hydrabadi lamb biryani, the meat was cooked to perfection and the rice was very tasty, along with the raita (yogurt sauce). The samosas are amazing and so are the desserts. Everything was freshly made from scratch and the prices are more than reasonable. The Chai was perfect at the end of the meal too. Can’t stop raving about how great it is. Service was also amazing and the real bonus is that it’s open late!

Their food was ok. Nothing amazing. We were there few days ago and we ordered three different dishes. Services were better than taste of food but unfortunately foods need more improvement. Quality and quantity wise. I've had better south Indian dishes and I was little disappointed that it did not meet my standard of authentic South Indian cuisine.

The Dosa Shop
During my visit to The Dosa Shop month of December year 2019..i had super & very nice foods. As you enter this restaurant you can be pretty sure that food would be good. The owner of the restaurant keeps an eye for every detail, checking on everything being cooked and served properly, was amazed by his dedication and energy. It was a wonderful experience. Good hospitality

The Dosa Shop
Honestly amazing food and very reasonably priced. A great option for vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters alike, with owners that work hard to make sure you leave full and happy. I'm not sure why this page says reservations required; you can definitely walk right in and they're usually not too busy.I am not always a huge fan of South Indian food because I find the spice levels overwhelming, but the owners here listened and catered to my preferences and made my dosa with the perfect amount of spice-- some of the best food I have ever eaten. My Indian born fiancee prefers spicy, more authentic tasting food and has also fallen in love with the food here. They listened to what he wanted and have made both dosas and thali (on separate occasions) exactly the way he likes them. It's not often that a restaurant can make us both happy, but this place definitely did.It is clear that most things are made very freshly. Even the chutney, which would be very easy to store, tastes as though it is being made to order. The customer service is also amazing. The owner remembered us and made sure to check that my food wasn't too spicy and that we had everything we needed. Overall, I would highly recommend this place -- we will certainly be going back!

I visited the restaurant today. Tried lunch buffet. Chicken 65 was juicy and delicious. Masala dosa was good. Vada was fresh but bit hard. Poori and sabji was good. Typical Karnataka style sambar and chutney.Other items - fish curry, lamb chettinad gravy, rice, Fried idly, chef special (beetroot fry) were ok .Dessert - dahi vada (didn’t try), rasamalai - good.

I had the pleasure of having food catered from this place for a private event at home. The owner delivered it on time and set it up well. Guests at home commented food was tasty and delicious. It was prepared as per our agreement (medium spice level) and as authentic and reasonably priced as you could get. Would recommend this to anyone who is eager to enjoy some tasty food and yet leave without a hole in their wallet! Customer service from owner is commendable!

A South Indian restaurant. Weekend Brunch was very good. Reasonably priced. A variety to choose from the buffet. Service was very good . Easy accessibility, free parking at the back . Taste was authentically south Indian. Would visit again.

Nothing lesser than 5 stars for the Dosa Shop. I've been a very satisfied customer from a long time. The biriyani is so good, I can't even stop eating. The fish is some of the freshest in town and they do such a good job with the spices! I also had the Mysore Masala Dosa, and as a Dosa connoisseur I was throughly impressed. The food here is some of the best South Indian food I've had in Edmonton. I would totally recommend anyone to try the food from here.
