Did my free week and had a blast. Learned a lot from the instructor and from the more advanced students. Very safe and friendly environment while pushing you to do better and improve. I will be back

I’m getting a lot out of my time training here. The coaches are great at what they do and the environment feels friendly and like people are there to improve BJJ in a safe and respectful manner.

Excellent instruction and training partners. Trained here for over a year now and have seen a massive improvement in my Jiu-Jitsu. I highly recommend this gym to anyone wanting to learn BJJ for fun, self-defence, fitness, or competition. I'll be training at Island Top Team for years to come.

Outstanding school, unbelievable value. I spent a week, Monday through Friday, with Rob at his school. The training was tough and technical. The students are so welcoming (maybe this is just a Canadian thing). Visiting students train for free, so no excuses. 10/10 I would recommend this school to my own training partners

Awesome place - I dropped in for Jiu-Jitsu while passing through Nanaimo. Rob's style of teaching is really methodical - he really makes sure you know what you're doing and why you're doing it. Feedback is great, immediate, and often hilariously direct, along the lines of... that move may work - but only against chumps - otherwise it's abysmal"."

I had the pleasure of spending a week in Nanaimo as a part of Island Top Team's visiting student program. Rob was hospitable and welcoming as was his team. Myself and another student were allowed to stay at Rob's place and train at his school which was an awesome experience. The only thing more impressive than the hospitable and welcoming nature of their team was Rob's proficiency as an instructor. I can tell you that he has an excellent system for improving an athletes technical and conceptual approach to grappling. He can quickly spot the holes in your game and give you advice on how to fix them. Rob exemplifies the term 'student of the game' traveling all over and taking privates with some of the top competitors in the world and then brings that knowledge back to his school. I would recommend this program to anyone interested in improving their conceptual understanding and technical knowledge of jiu jitsu.

This is a great gym. I was traveling through Nanaimo and joined them for an open mat. Everyone was friendly, they have a great sense of community, and provided some solid rolls. I rolled once with Rob, and he seems like a great instructor.

Just a heads up to any traveling students or new people to the Island. If your not fully vaccinated you'll probably be asked not to attend or if only partially vaccinated, you might be asked not to attend any further. Depending on what the case numbers are doing. Other than that seemed like a good club.
