Harbin Chinese Restaurant 哈尔滨老道外砂锅居
Not bad but could be better.The sweet and sour pork, while crispy, was tough. Needs some more tenderizer or baking soda. Sauce and taste were on point.The 地三鮮 is good, but why is the volume so little? 15 bucks for a plate of eggplants and potatoes, and just a few slices of carrot. Compared to the plate of sweet and sour pork, which is 18 bucks and the volume is way more.The 乾炒牛河 was really oily.The tea is not free and expensive.So the taste is overall satisfactory but rating lowered for little demerits here and there.

Update: I have been back to this restaurant multiple times and I have to say it never disappoint. Sure, not all the dishes are to my liking as I have more of a southern taste bud but the dishes I always enjoy had been very consistently produced. I can't believe all the 1 star reviews saying the restaurant bought the 5 star reviews. I suspect these 1 star reviews are from competitors making false claims. This is a good local business for Kanata and I will fully support because I truly enjoy their food. I have to say it has become one of my favourite restaurants in Ottawa!BETTER THAN MY EXPECTATIONS! I thought people said their portions were small but they were regular sizes. The flavours were really good. And when you order meat dishes, the amount of meat is soooo much!!! It is not like 80% vegetables and 20% meat. It is honestly 90% meat. I would definitely come back. The dish H1 was AMAZING!It doesn't hurt that it is link to a pestotea! I always order food from Harbin first then head over to buy my boba while I went for the dishes to come out. The dishes come quick (but I always go when there's only 1 or 2 other customers in the restaurant).You can't beat bubble tea and authentic Chinese cuisine!

Harbin Chinese Restaurant 哈尔滨老道外砂锅居
A rare find in Kanata. Really authentic Chinese restaurant with Northern Chinese and Sichuan Chinese food. The chef recommended tenderloin dish was the best. Really tender and savory. The Sichuan spicy sliced beef in hot oil was great with rice. It is quite spicy so I also ordered a bubble tea from next door (seems like they are owned by the same owner). The casserole was the only disappointment. Very small for a Large size and the flavour was average. Overall this a breath of fresh air in Kanata. Highly recommend coming here for dinner as there are a lot more options.

First time going here because a friend told me to try it. The food is bomb! Everything was just so delicious and seasoned just right. Will come back again to try out other dishes :)

Excellent authentic food with great portions. Rice felt steep at 2$ a small portion but it makes up for it with large quantities of quality food. Could use a bit more spiciness for me for the fish in chilli oil, maybe I'll request that next time we're around.

It was my first time here and had an exceptional experience. The food was very good and the service was good as well. It’s very easy to get Chinese food but let me tell you, not this good. We ordered like 10 dishes for 5 people to share. I felt like it was slightly more expensive but the portions are bigger and tasty.

The first place I went to eat after landing in Ottawa was Harbin. That's how much my family and I like the food here. I'm from New York City, and there is plenty of delicious Sichuan food there (e.g., Szechuan Mountain House), but Harbin captivates my mind like no other restaurant in Ottawa.In particular, we're fond of the Mao Xue Wang (毛血旺), Sichuan Mala Chicken Cartilage (辣子鸡软骨), Szechuan Cabbage and Fish (酸菜鱼), Stir-Fried Chinese Cabbage and Wood Ear with Black Vinegar, and many many more. The chili oil they use has a great balance of ma (numbness) and la (spiciness). Everything tastes authentic, including those dishes that do not rely on spicy flavors. Last, but not least, the prices at Harbin are more economical compared to similar quality restaurants elsewhere.On the one hand, it would be in my best interest if this restaurant continues to remain the hidden gem that it has been so far (i.e., shorter wait times for me, less crowding, etc.). On the other hand, the owners and chefs are such amazing people that I hope more food enthusiasts in the area come to know of this restaurant and try it out; I have no doubt that when they do, they will also agree that this is one of the most delicious and authentic Chinese restaurants in the region.Photo credit: @nyc_piggie (Instagram)

Best way to save some money is to order takeout on their website. Pick up is around 20 mins after you place your order.Authentic northern food but also offers southern dishes. Polite staff. I use their website for pick up and they package their dishes with tin foil lining the containers to avoid spillage. Lovely restaurant interior.Favourites dishes.-L3 (cold dish) seasoned beef- grandma’s pork belly and eggs (chefs special) so good!-Shanghai sliced fish-crisp fried pork side ribs-mapo tofu-kong pao shrimp and eggplantsOther dishes in the photos:-spicy blood Tofu, pork intestines, clear noodle in chilli sauce-beef tenderloin

First time to try here... excellent taste. Real Chinese food! I heard about this place from many friends and passed by this place number of time. With doubts, i came and tried number of dishes, wow, better than expected. I heard that chef is class one chef from China.... wow!
