I was impressed by the professionalism and excellent care I received from day surgery recently. The nursing staff and doctors were efficient, kept me informed, and were very friendly and calm. It seemed to me they enjoyed working there.

Presented at hospital at 8:30am for scheduled 10 am day surgery, Turns out the doctors office had told me I could eat breakfast so I had a banana. When I told the nurse she explained why the policy was nothing to eat the day of surgery. My surgery was rescheduled to 3 pm! I waited 7 hours but my reason for posting this is to compliment the nurses and the doctor for the way they went out of their way to make me comfortable as I waited. A simple mistake but at the end of the day my surgery went great!Peter JenningsSaanich

As a new resident here in Canada, I was a bit concerned about the waiting times for medical attention. Thankfully, a friend of mine recommended me to go to SPH, despite me living just minutes away from RJH. Once at SPH, I was greeted by a kind staff, got blood work and urine test within 45 mins, then checked by a doctor who evaluated me and recommended another test. I was dismissed in 2 and half hours approx with a prescription. Great experience!!!Thank you SPH staff!!!

Absolutely not happy about how I was treated by one particular staff member. She was rude, gaslighting, condescending, dismissive, and made me feel as if I had no right to be there despite obvious symptoms.I am filing a complaint with 811 and seeking care elsewhere. I feel discriminated against at this facility.

This is a follow up review. A couple of months ago, I saw a surgeon. He told me they could operate on my gallstones and gall bladder. They have been needed to be operated for several years. He gave the go ahead and said he would perform the operation. Note that most gallbladder/gallstone surgery is done laparoscopically these days. Also, I had successful spinal stenosis surgery in February and eye surgery in March with my anemia.I saw the anesthesiologist who expressed some concern over the anemia, told me to eat liver for three weeks and sent me to the lab to get my pre op work done and stated the surgery could be done. I contacted the surgeons office and received a phone call that I needed to do another consult with another anesthesiologist and that a letter was sent back to my doctor. Please note that in the meantime, I have been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica, which affects my anemia. The fact is all the liver in the world will not my help with my anemia. It goes along with my disease which all the concerned parties, the surgeon and the anesthesiologist should be cognizant of.With sending everything back to my doctor, the hospital and everyone else involved, with the exception of my family doctor, appears “to wash their hands” of my surgery. They will not do it because of my anemia but I believe it is my other disease that lies underneath their refusal to do my surgery by the hospital and surgeon. Please note that a nurse from day surgery called recently to check on my anemia so perhaps I could have the surgery. Frankly, I do not have the confidence in the hospital, the surgeon nor the anesthesiologist to perform my surgery. My family doctor has referred me to another surgeon at a bigger hospital. It will take at least another year to have my surgery.I am 70 years young, have several degrees including a graduate degree and was treated like a child. I am not sure what the “real hold” was but the disease that I was recently diagnosed is very painful, could take anywhere from 1-5 years to arrest, which means I could have to continue to suffer in pain with my gall bladder for another 1-2 years. This has increased my stress level. When my stress level goes up, my cortisol goes up which makes the disease I have, an inflammatory disease, (polymyalgia rheumatica) to become more inflamed. This increases my pain levels to an almost unliveable level. Please note that my family doctor is wonderful and is a champion for my health. Please also note that both the imaging and lab are excellent at Saanich and I have always been treated with great respect in both departments.Just a note. In September, I called my doctor because of a strange pain in my head. He told me to go to Emerg at Saanich. The doctor I saw in emergency on September 10th did not do any tests to reveal my polymyalgia rheumatica but only did a quick scan and sent me home with T3’s in spite of the fact I did not want them. They cause stomach problems.Considering that the population in the Sidney area are mostly retired folks, perhaps that doctor should familiarize himself with aging peoples disease, like the one I have. Had he suspected my above disease, he could have saved me three weeks of excruciating pain. Instead it was a three minute appointment and a misdiagnosis.I believe that this may be a prejudicial thing because of my age or everyone trying to protect their interests. Please note that I am on my own and do not have nor can drive a vehicle. Getting back and forth to the Saanich Hospital is very expensive with a cab and I cannot ride the bus because of my disease and my arthritis. Unfortunately, one has to book 14 days in advance for Handydart. So going for numerous consultations can be very expensive. I live on a fixed income.

Honestly the worst experience. Just the way the nurses treat you makes me feel worse than when I walked in. I get it, nurses are overworked, but it's not an excuse to treat people less than humans.

I know the nurses work hard. I know they are overworked and understaffed. But that is NO REASON for the emergency room nurses to be blatantly and overtly rude. Do they think we want to be in the emergency room? Do they think their rudeness takes away the pain people are in either as patients or people visiting loved ones? Ridiculous. If you hate your job, find another job. Simple.

I was there last night and 2 nights ago and I can tell you they really cared and they did an amazing job with the tools they had at hand. I would suggest visiting them in case of great need as they are not as busy as the other ERs in the city and each and every employee there was absolutely amazing: docs, nurses, reception, security, literally EVERYBODY! I benefited from extensive tests (3 different ultrasounds, a CT Scan, extensive blood work, IVs, you name it!) and even if they are a small hospital with limited resources, they will do everything in their power to direct you to the right places to get all tests and everything. They will also follow up with you and you will only be discharged in case you are comfortable and feel secure regarding your health situation. I left with answers and a plan to cure, things that I did not have when I visited VGH for multiple times in the last 2 years. Oh, man, these people really work hard and do care about their patients, I was quite impressed. All ER docs on duty on both nights were absolutely amazing! I cannot thank them enough!
