Big Intervale Fishing Lodge
We arrived through the trails- we had been spending the day off roading. It was the first time we had been there, we walked the grounds- the place is beautiful! We had lunch at the restaurant. The good was delicious and the waitress was super friendly. When we told her we were trying to make it to the Co-Op in maragree, she called them for us to make sure they were still open. I asked about booking cabins, she told me the fall gets pretty booked up (and I can see why, the place must be breath taking in all the fall colors) but otherwise they usually have some pretty good availability. We'll definitely be back!

This place is well off the beaten track...as my father-in-law says go to where the road ends- and then keep going!! But is it ever worth the drive!! The owners are fantastic people who pride themselves with their work. Herman and Ruth are wonderful. Herman is the chef and a master at that! The place is set up for appropriate social distancing and Ruth wears a face shield. I had the chicken curry and would drive back tomorrow to have it again. Our salads were sooo green and fresh, like they were from their garden! Good selection of local wine and beer too. We have been there for past several years and will continue to go back...if you are in the area, be sure go check them out!!!!

If you are visiting Cape Breton for the fall and you looking for beautiful scenery and some amazing food stop by the big Intervale salmon Lodge. My wife and I were attending the Highland Quest and on our way back home we stop by the lodge with a few friends. This was my wife and I first time there. The Owners were exceedingly friendly and even open up five minutes early when they seen us coming. The restaurant and bar was beautifully decorated with pictures on the local area that shows the rich history of the Margaree River and the lodge. The food was amazing! My wife had fresh fish ( and I mean fresh!) And chips and I had the soup of the day (pumpkin soup) and I have never tasted anything so delicious in my life. Now to top it off this place is located on some of the best pools for Salmon fishing in eastern Canada. What more can I say other than we will be back!

A drive for 40 minutes down a bumpy dirt road, will take you to this great place for a meal. They have three cabins that can be rented and a dining room with a great menu. Two of the cabins are winterized and two are two bedroom and one is two separate rooms. The cabins were well appointed with everything we needed, even coffee pots and coffee for the morning. We stayed for two nights so had two breakfasts and two dinners. The breakfast menu is basic with eggs and bacon, French toast or muesli mix. The dinner menu was more extensive with Steak, Port loin, Pasta, Salmon etc and everything was delicious. There were six of us, so we sampled most choices. They offer 1/2 portions which was more than enough for most of us. Now they do not serve lunch, so if staying you would need to bring lunch or have to drive out. You do need to be aware that this is a fishing lodge, so some of it is pretty basic. We were not fishers, though, and we did really enjoy our stay. The couple who run the place were absolutely wonderful hosts.

Great food at a reasonable price with friendly service. The location is breathtaking. We hit there the day after an evening rain so the waterfall high on the mountain was showing off. The place has a bit of magic and a load of whimsy in design and execution.

Beautiful place and we went for dinner only. Nestled on the banks of the Margaree River, this quaint lodge offered an excellent dining experience. I recommend the Atlantic salmon! Well priced, generous portions and cooked to perfection! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and were discreetly attentive to our needs. The chef even came out to make sure everything was to our liking. I highly recommend Big Intervale Fishing Lodge!!

Cottages were super cute, clean and cozy. The restaurant had terrific food. The only thing to keep in mind when booking here is the 15 plus kilometer dirt road to get there. This should be made aware on their website.

A lovely experience and one well worth taking - you don’t have to fish to enjoy. Cottage rooms are basic - and meet the needs - but that’s not really what it’s about. You are nestled in a tight little valley with a babbling waterway and trail next to you. A lovely 15 minute drive in through the woods - very easy to do. Charming lodge and lovely proprietors who offer tasty food and are all around excellent hosts. We made this part of our first Cabot trail experience and were not disappointed.

Cute cottages and good food in a beautiful remote setting on a river. No lunch served, so we ate leftovers from dinner and breakfast. Nice hiking trail along the river with views of mountains. Owners were friendly. Only negative is the last 8 miles (13 kilometers) over muddy, pot-holed dirt road, sometimes partly covered by water.

Incredible food and service! Probably the best meals we've eaten in NS. Ruth and her spouse Hermann provided great hospitality, we will absolutely be back!
