Miners Monument

Another beautiful and touching memorial to the miners in this area. The monument stands in a fenced off area, and I was thrilled to learn for the very first time of Davis Day, the day miners historically took the day off work to honour those who were killed in the mines. The story of how Davis day formed is both touching and horrifying. The conditions those men went though with their bravery was shining example of how people can make changes. I had no idea. I just randomly stopped here on a visit from Halifax for the day. The names on the monument are not all men killed in mines, but only those killed in mining disasters. There is also a little park bench outside the fence where you can sit quietly for awhile. I’m not sure it is part of the memorial directly but is certainly a valuable addition. Definitely worth a visit.
