South St. BurgerA Review by Hassan HawashThey had me at “we don’t do drive-thrus’ on the poster as you come in the entrance. From the moment I saw that sign, I was reassured that although I was having a burger, which is, of course, ever so synonymous with fast food, My 5oz angus Canadian Burger was not a made to rush burger. In fact, it was a pretty close to a made to order burger.From what I gathered, at South St. Burger, they have enough burgers delivered from the main headquarters in the Big Smoke trucked in for a five-day period thus preserving their motto ‘never frozen’. The franchise personnel are well aware of how long the burgers can keep in the refrigerator before an expiration date sets in.To my delight, the burger came as advertised. There was definitely a freshness to it. A good thick 5 oz. burger took the time you would expect – about ten minutes on the grill, for it to be well done. The wide assortment of toppings all looked very fresh. None of that processed cheese! The burger was kind of reminiscent of what I remember of having at home growing up when mom would make burgers from scratch. As for beverages, they had Boylan’s black cherry soda on offer as well, one of my fav’s. As far as a side dish, the onion rings had just the right amount of crispiness that I like.As in many dine ins, free wifi is offered. They further this offer, which is becoming more and more commonplace and, of course, is a very good public relations gesture of asking for your birthday as to extend a burger offering on your special day.

Great ingredients customized for you. Place has great potential. Fries were wet with grease, though. The multigrain bun was prepped ahead of the burger, and then it seemed to take a while for the burger. Hard stools and tables with no sound absorption anywhere made it a bit loud and hard to sit still. The bench seats were padded but pretty worn out.

Had an overall good experience here last night. This was my first time at South St. Burger. I had a BOGO burger coupon for my birthday (Thanks!). I like all the topping options!EDIT: 2nd time not as impressed. The guy behind the counter was not very friendly and pretty well ignored me at times. I called him out in the price of the fries that on the board behind him was $1-2 less than he was charging me. He just told me, “ah ya they went up”. Well then please at least put a temporary paper up there with the price correction! So bad.

They were so disorganized. The guy cooking the burgers was back chewing gum like a cow. He was doing one burger at a time. There was a line up so more than one burger should have been on the grill?? Temperature in the dining area was 69 degrees. Not a very comfortable temperature for dining

Great ingredients that make the best burger. Cheddar cheese, great bacon, and multi grain bun. Gluten-free options.Regular (angus) burgers are fresh, not frozen, which I think helps to retain the flavor.Staff are knowledgeable about their business. They also timed cooking the fries around the time it takes to make the burger, so both were very hot when ready.

Southstreet used to be our favourite because they offer gluten and dairy free options. However the last few times we have come we’ve waited forever for our food, the person taking the money had to be asked to change his gloves and the burgers are burnt because nobody is watching them. Very disappointing South Street used to be the best!!!

Brutal. Not worth the money. Slowest service I’ve ever had in my life, and extremely apathetic. While the cashier was putting the lid on my drink, it overflowed and the lid crumpled. Instead of pouring a new one or at the bare minimum getting a new lid, he looked at me then he just put it up on the tray… dripping. What a sticky mess, just like the floors and the booths. Disgusting to eat in. Waited 15min for a meal with only one order ahead of me. Fine whatever. But then when my chicken burger was finally made AND topped, this guy reads the ticket then turns around and drops the waffle fries in… like you couldn’t have done that 5min ago while I was waiting? At least they accidentally gave me bacon, that I didn’t order…

First time there at boardwalk. Service great and friendly however place was dirty unswept and tables not cleaned. Only 2 staff but wasn’t that busy and staff should have been cleaning between customers. Don’t think we’ll be back. Food was good but buns cold and no ice in drink

The burgers were literally raw and severely undercooked. If I hadn't taken them to go and gone to the Office I would have gone back in and gotten rather upset.This is completely unacceptable and look forward to hearing from the owner. I have never given a bad review because I don't believe in doing so over poor service if an employee is just having a rough day but this goes beyond and is just disgusting.
