I want to say first thing, this review is on the workshop and that this is a nice place to have in the city. But most of this review is a warning to serious woodworkers. Mainly if you are considering doing some work here, you should be careful of what you are using. A lot of the machines have small problems that will translate to big problems in your work. using the mitre saw, 0 is not 0 degrees, the drill press platform is not square, the thickness planer tears out like nuts, the table saw fence won't stay locked. Things of this nature. It's a place where everyone is using this stuff and it gets lots of problems and these never seem to get addressed. It's free on community night and it can be useful to you but frankly it's mostly hobby stuff or people using the cnc. Seriously it is hard to just find a workbench space without a laptop on it. If you are doing serious work, just be careful with what you are doing and try to compensate for the problems if you can safely. Again, I like having the option but it's like a well where you make damn sure you boil the water first before drinking. props to the volunteers for trying though.

Toronto Tool Library has loads of things you can rent with different memberships, and they also have a makers space with work benches, a laser cutting machine and sell shampoo and conditioner you can decant in to your own bottles! It’s a little tucked away in an alley, so just keep an eye out for the sign on the sidewalk.

The Tool Library is a great community service. I have used their extensive selection of tools to work on dozens of projects.

I was double charged for one piece of wood then after providing details to the manager regarding the double charge as well as not being charged taxes for a piece of wood (cut off scrap that had already been taxed/ unless purchased as large quantities as a contractor, as per the new softwood lumber deal) I was verbally abused by said manager and other employees.Their solution was to eventually refund my extra charge onto my credit card he even attempted to pay it back in cash( an attempted violation of his own end user agreement with stripe) then cancel my membership.I support green initiatives like the Tool Library, I do not support manipulation of extra charges to increase a payment processor's profits, like Stripe. Nor do I support customer service agents who believe it's ok to abuse or attempt psychology experiments. So instead of allowing bygones to be bygones the manager has continued to lie in his reports of what actually occurred that day. He has also chosen to deny another membership of mine and tool reservations. Thereby decreasing the profile of the Toronto Tool library as a green initiative, due the fact I have to purchase tools instead.

If you are serious about your project, be warned, do your research or give it a trial on community night. This library was built on the generosity of volunteers, grants and donations. Built on the premise of sharing"

I've been looking for a maker space that's close to me, and this one is incredibly well-equipped: a full wood shop, lots of CNC and 3D printing, plants of hand tools, and space to work. Also? I took their wood shop intro course, and I have to say that Jenn was one of the best teachers I've seen recently. She was funny, clever, informative, and engaging. I learned a ton, and I came away feeling excited about using this maker space!

This place is great, rather than owning 12 different large power tools and trying to find a place for them in your house/condo/apartment, rent the tools from these guys. The yearly membership isn't expensive and worth it! I have rented all sorts of great tools such as a sliding mitre saw, electric metal shears, nail guns with air compressors, inspection cameras, pole saw & pruner... I'm glad I don't have to go out and buy all of these tools.
