Excellent store, great staff and a fabulous selection of instruments. Really happy that Tom and Marla have kept this piece of Nova Scotia musical history alive since the 1970s. I recently bought a vintage Guild Starfire II from them, and it was a superb deal.

Tom did an excellent job of converting my late father's 1953 j45 to left handed for me. It's nice to have someone locally that's talented enough that you don't mind letting them work on a valuable family eirloom.

They were able to fix up my 20 year old seagull. Another repair shop told me it wasn't worth repairing. I took it in here for a second opinion, and they repaired it beyond my expectations, less expensive than expected, and quicker than expected. If I ever need a guitar repair or setup, this is where I'm coming.

Love this little shop. Has been in business for almost 50 years. Great service and a very experienced luthier on staff for setups, repairs, tweaks, etc. I'm a Seagull guitar guy and these guys know their gear. Often have great sale prices. Nice to be able to support a local business!

Bought an old roughed up Silvertone acoustic that was in dire need of a neck reset amongst other things. The guys at the Folklore Center did an incredible job in bringing it back to life. Felt like a big expense at first but was totally worthwhile. Plays like a new old guitar with lots of soul. Highly recommend them for repairs. Really cool shop too

Knowledgable staff and the best repairs on the East Coast. There's a reason a lot of local pros go to Tom Dorward for repair and upkeep on stringed instruments. He builds from scratch and rebuilds antiques as skillfully as he repairs and tunes up the little stuff.I have had work done here on two occasions and it has been of excellent quality, was explained to me clearly and professionally by the staff and I paid a fair price for the labour.Fun stuff for sale, too - their vintage gear is great. On last visit, I got to play a 1935 Gibson that's worth a visit just to ogle.This is your first stop.
