The Grand Hotel Nanaimo
My partner and I stayed as locals and were pretty disappointed with the outcome of our stay. Although the bed was super comfy that was about it. The room and hallways had a disgusting smell that almost made it hard to be in our room, we had to open the windows and doors. The smell may be due to the rooms being so outdated but it was something that ruined the experience. We also ordered food to the hotel and asked for some dishes and such to be brought up to the room and our delivered food made it before our dishes did and we waited an hour for our food.So overall, we wouldn’t stay here again nor recommend it.

The Grand Hotel Nanaimo
Best Whisky bar in Nanaimo, I attended the Wee Tipple just past weekend which is their annual charity whisky festival. And I was really amazed by their selection of whiskies. The owner knows her whisky and nice taste in decorating. The rate was so reasonable, it is really valuable. The bunch was delicious as well, and service was outstanding.

The Grand Hotel Nanaimo
In Company of my 90 year old Mom, I attend the Grand Hotel Tea when visiting Nanaimo. As always, it was a Pleasant Restful Delightful Experience, and the Gentleman Host was (as always) Gracious and Friendly. The House Canine Barkley was a Joy, and service was Spectacular. Since last visit, price has increased close to 50% so this is A Very Special Treat.

I'm still trying to figure out if they are intentionally going for the haunted house feel, or if it just happened naturally. Definitely a ghostbusters/luigi's mansion vibe going on here. The lobby and hallways are dimly lit and cluttered with antique looking furniture. If you are not afraid of ghosts, this place might be right for you

The Grand Hotel continues to deliver great service over many years. The facility is very nice and it is in a great location but most of all the staff deliver terrific service. Well done!!

The Grand Hotel Nanaimo
Lovely hotel with a nice restaurant located behind the lobby. Staff were welcoming and had great customer service. Bed was super comfortable and our pet friendly room was clean and spacious. Able to walk to the nearby lake too which was great with our Labrador on a hot day. Would definitely stay here again.

Such a nice hotel. The Grand is the perfect name as it really presents as a grand older style hotel from a bygone Era. It's not tires at all in my opinion although the decor is certainly a bit dated. I found everything to be very relaxing, clean, and well cared for.If you are whiskey drinker a teip to the whiskey bar is a must with over 150 varieties on offer.The room was a little bit used up but still just fine. Brass appointments call back to the older style of decor but again everything was in great condition in my room with the possible exception of the carpet which was in pretty rough shape. Bed was very comfortable and the hotel was very quiet at night.Considering this hotel is cheaper than the modern ones in the area I think it's a great choice! Embrace the grand and give the big yellow lab a scratch on the head in the lobby!

I really really wanted to love this place. The Rooms and hallways are hot and stuffy, even with the AC on full blast - not to mention the AC also randomly turns off at night even when set to stay on? The whole place feels and smells fresh out of the 90s. Staff are pretty nice - you could tell she did her best even though she was on her own and doing the work of multiple areas of staff. Overall just disappointed by this hotel. The amenities that are often a deciding factor on whether the room would be a good fit are completely innacurate, and it wasn't just us as one guest that seemed completely uninformed. When we asked where the pool was, the staff advised Oh its been closed for years however there are jacuzzi tubs". Fantastic - is what it would be if the jacuzzi tubs were functioning. Again the staff advised "Oh yeah they were turned off ages ago". There is still a sign on the wall and the existing timers. It would be appropriate to advise guests upon booking or arrival that such amenities are not available. Everything is very sloppily done - painters tape still on the doors

The Grand Hotel Nanaimo
My personal experience has been nothing short of incredible. Everything from the rooms, to the food and hotel service, this place is very high-end and classy, without being all hoity-toity. The location offers the only Whiskey Bar in Nanaimo and is within walking distance to Long Lake, a premium spot for suntanning, swimming and fishing. With a vivid display of exotic plants, the garden is packed full of sweet little treats. Stay here if you want to experience a service driven towards the customer.
