The CKC is not a reliable place to find a breeder that has the dog’s best interest at heart. To be on the list of breeders doesn’t mean that the breeders are doing their due diligence when it comes to breeding temperament or the best homes for the dogs. They even make you pay a fee to file a complaint against a breeder! Don’t trust the list of breeders that are CKC registered.

The CKC is out of the FCI and it's bad for all of us. Do you have an update on the relation between you and the FCI?

I have been a breeder with the CKC for almost 10 years and every year the service and organization gets worse and worse! How is that possible? If I had another choice I would not waste my time with the CKC.

The breeders part of the organization do not seem to follow any consistent guidelines when it comes to the dogs they are breeding. It is clear that the well being of the dogs are not even considered. Not to mention helping find the dogs appropriate homes.Most of my inquiries to the CKC or to any of the registered breeders received no response at all. I’m not sure the function of the CKC and I can say from unfortunate first hand experience, that there should be no trust placed on the list of registered breeders.I urge anyone reading this or looking into breeding or getting a dog to do your research elsewhere and cross reference any breeder you are looking into. Do not trust the CKC.Happy to share details of my experiences to anyone interested as I would not want anyone to have to go through what I have.

As an agency, I do not understand the function of the Canadian Kennel Club. While I understand their role is primarily regarding the upkeep of breed standards, I am not sure that they are useful in any manner to the public. I have emailed CKC on multiple occasions to get clarification regarding their role in protecting the social, mental and physical welfare of the dogs bred by their registered breeders, and have not received a response. I have called their toll-free number ,multiple times to ask the same question, and received no response. Poor customer service, poor website/online information clarity regarding your role as an agency in doing anything more than regulating breed standards for dog showings. Perhaps do better.
