The Homer Bridge is a staple for getting to and from Niagara On the Lake and Niagara Falls for the locals. On one side of the Homer Bridge is a very good breakfast restaurant. And,on the other is a very good Greek restaurant. The locals and regular visitors to the Niagara Area love them both.For history buffs,there is a small cemetery that most people are unaware of less than 100 feet on the other side of the bridge on your way to Niagara on the Lake and Niagara Falls.

Took for ever ... a bardge going south withwent through very quick. But then there was a hold up . Turned out a freighter which was just leaving dock was also going to go past the upright bridge heading north .

I’d give it zero if I could. I’ve been sitting here for an hour. For the first 35 minutes while it stood open holding up traffic, no boats even came by. One finally did, and now we’ve been sitting here another 20 minutes and the bridge has yet to close. There are no alternative routes and even if there were traffic is so backed up there’s nowhere to go anyway.

I have been travelling over the Homer Bridge for well as far back as I can remember. The bridge is a split bridge that opens up for ships to pass through the welland canal. I recommend if you are a tourist to check it out and if you are a local, there is information on when the Homer bridge is up so that you don't have to wait the 10 minutes for the boats to pass. the only double leaf bascule drawbridge on the Welland canal, the Homer bridge is amazing drawbridge, with the best views of it on the trail down below beside the canal, you can go pretty close to the ship, although drivers have to stop at the traffic light but as a pedestrian you can go right up to the gates. usually a 10-15 minute wait with one ship so can be pretty annoying for drivers. 93.3 FM for bridge status.

As a tourist driving if bridge is going up you will be stuck for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately my GPS did not warn me and give alternative route.

Accidentally exited the Queen Elizabeth Way and ended up waiting while this bridge was up. Lovely bridge. Didn't care too much for the wait though.
