Terrible, terrible service because I called 4 days in advance to book DATS,but they told me that they don’t have a ride, and tell me to call them later to see if they have ride. Also they had left me on my location without picking me up three days in row and when I called them back they blamed me that I didn’t show up.If they have 0 star options I would give them 0 star beside one.

My grandparents were patiently waiting in their house for DATS. The driver did not ring the doorbell and drove off before the schedule time of pickup. My grandfather later walked outside to check on the driver and saw the vehicle driving off. This is something that also happened to my grandfather's friends. Careless behaviour and the drivers do not fulfill their duties up to standards either. If you are going to work for the city please have integrity and respect for citizens. I can understand it's a free service, but our tax money pays for it. I later called customer service and the client representative was further more careless and was not concerned with helping me at all, she also told me there was no other ride available. Customer service is clearly needed in the public service city of Edmonton. These people seem as though they come to work for their 9-5s and have no performance standards to oblige too. That's unfortunate and I can see why trust in government is low. Basic services cannot be maintained up to standards.

There are many problems with this service. I am giving it three stars because while it has so many problems, it also has some excellent people, provides a reasonably priced way to get around the city, and is a better option than some alternatives. This is a ride-share service. While it picks you up and drops you off where you request, much like a cab, it does so while also picking up and dropping off other people. The policy says you can spend a max 90 minutes in the van. However, if you are traveling across the river or a significant distance across town, you can be in there much longer. This makes some people very angry, as does the seating arrangements which are determined by the driver. Some passengers insist on being seated up front or right at the door, even though physically they're capable of sitting in a less accessible seat. I have seen passengers make such a big deal out of it that a passenger with much less physical ability took the less accessible seat simply to stop the complaining. For the most part, I have found the drivers pleasant and polite. Most of them are helpful. Unfortunately, some of them are not. Some have said they were there during the pickup window and I was not even though I had been waiting since before the pickup window started. When this happens, I get listed as a no-show and I don't have a ride. Calling the Customer Care Centre to inquire about your ride and to complain that you have been waiting since before the pickup window started and it's the driver who didn't show, generally ends in you being treated badly and essentially called a liar. The operators are generally some of the most unpleasant, condescending and unhelpful people. There are some notable exceptions, but overall my experience has been terrible. They have insisted they don't go to places I have tried to book, such as the Law Centre at the University of Alberta. They have threatened to take away my booking privileges for cancelling trips according to their policy. They have deactivated my registration because I hadn't used the service for a while when I was in hospital. They deactivate registrations because they say they have too many users. It seems to me that deactivating people that qualify for the service is not the right response to this problem. Either make the conditions for registering more restrictive, increase the amount of drivers and vehicles. Randomly deactivating people because they haven't used the service for a time doesn't solve the problem. I might only occasionally need the service, but then I need it, and I've qualified for it, so I should be able to use it.Drivers have said the routes are created by a company in Houston. This means they can't respond to traffic conditions, or any changes in traffic. They also don't understand how traffic moves from one part of the city to another. If a driver wishes to vary it, they have to get permission, or they get in trouble. Often, the route they are given has people in the vehicle for longer than is absolutely necessary, because it is inefficient. Many drivers choose not to ask to vary the route simply because it is easier. But it can make it a long and uncomfortable ride for the passengers. Thankfully, I live in a central location, and my rides are usually short.Overall, this service is much cheaper than a cab, and is often a shorter wait time and less of a hassle. Wheelchair cabs are very hard to get in this city, and the wait times are often stated as up to two hours. Often the cab doesn't show anyway, so they tell you they will send another, and the wait will be up to two hours. Also, cab drivers are usually not nearly as helpful as DATS drivers, even though you pay way more, and they expect you to tip them. So the inconvenience of DATS can be better than the inconvenience of taking a cab, and the cost of bus fare is definitely much lower than the cost of a cab. So, three stars because it is a very flawed system that needs to be overhauled and much more focused on the user experience, but it is still better than many alternatives.

Deplorable service! My mother has not been to church in over 2 months because of their lack of availability. Their telephone lines always have an excessive hold time and when you do get through the times are always booked. About a year ago, I changed to the online booking and it doesn't get better. The system opens at 7:30am MST and within an hour all times for a Sunday are booked between 8am-noon. There is absolutely no way that within 60 min all Sunday drivers and time slots are full between 8am-noon. They must be allocating slots for other services or clients because this is just outrageous. I am so incredibly frustrated with this service, their lack of attention, and customer service. DATS Edmonton should feel ashamed at how low level of a service they offer to Edmonton residents.Shame!!

DATS policy or procedures are that customers are to call 3 days and 2 hours ahead of any appointments that you need to be to. I have done this and on a couple of occasions they can’t or won’t accommodate and end up having to call a taxi, now costing me $40.00 one way. Yes I have called administration and all they have replied is “sorry”. The handicapped community needs a better system than what DATS is offering
