A great Japanese store with excellent sushi, bento boxes, bowls and curry to take home and enjoy. I've been coming here for years.

I recently had the pleasure of stepping into a Japanese supermarket, and I must say, it was a delightful journey into the heart of Japanese culture and culinary wonders. This supermarket truly captures the essence of Japan, offering an impressive array of authentic Japanese products that cater to both Japanese expatriates and enthusiasts of Japanese cuisine. From the moment I entered, I was greeted by the vibrant sights and sounds that are synonymous with Japanese markets. The shelves were lined with an extensive selection of Japanese ingredients, ranging from fresh produce, sushi-grade fish, and a wide variety of noodles and sauces. It was a paradise for anyone seeking to recreate traditional Japanese dishes or experiment with new flavors. One of the highlights of this supermarket was the fresh seafood section. The impeccably displayed fish and shellfish, sourced with care and precision, showcased the commitment to quality that permeated throughout the store. The sushi and sashimi offerings were particularly noteworthy, providing a taste of authentic Japanese delicacies that surpassed my expectations. The supermarket also boasted a wide range of Japanese snacks and confectioneries, offering a tantalizing array of flavors and textures. From traditional mochi and matcha-infused treats to savory rice crackers and a diverse selection of Japanese teas, every aisle was a treasure trove of delectable surprises. It was an excellent opportunity to explore new tastes and expand my culinary horizons. The store's organization and cleanliness were commendable. The well-arranged aisles and clear labeling made it easy to navigate and locate specific products, even for those unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine. The friendly and helpful staff were readily available to provide guidance and recommendations, further enhancing the overall shopping experience. If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine or simply eager to explore the rich flavors of Japan, this supermarket is an absolute must-visit. It offers a comprehensive selection of authentic Japanese products, ensuring that you can embark on a culinary adventure without leaving the city. Immerse yourself in the sights, smells, and tastes of Japan, and let this supermarket transport you to a world of Japanese gastronomic delights.

For grocery store (yes I know it’s a Japanese specialty store) the sushi and sashimi bowls are incredible. Crazy fresh fish for a really cheap price. If I lived close by I’d be going here every week!

Great selection of food and good quality. Service was a bit slow but it was very busy when we went. Friendly hostess and fun experience having Japanese food similar to a Korean BBQ.

Great place def worth the visit. This place only has sushi, traditional bento boxes but also has stuff like books, stationary, baby items and etc in a small little corner close to the exit. It also has a small baked goods area as well as a few special fresh and frozen grocery items. You get the feeling that it wants to try to include as many Japanese style items as possible, and I think it does it fairly well. It doesn't feel like those asian stores that are really cramped with just stuff, and that's usually dirty. The place is quite clean and well organized. You can clearly tell what aisle is dedicated to what, and what part of the store is dedicated to what. It even has some japanese novels and speciality Japanese cookware like takoyaki pans! In the summer time, they sell beautiful Shiso plants for you to take home and grow! I buy it every year, cause I kill it every year trying to grow it... But im not giving up! Any ways, its a good place to check out if your in the area and want some sushi fast and on the go.

Izumiya is one of a few Japanese grocery/goods stores in Richmond. Upon entering and going clockwise, they have sections with: rice and mochi cakes; fruits and vegetables like kabocha squash, sweet potatoes, shishito peppers, gobo root, naganegi, daikon, enoki/white and brown shimeji/shiitake mushrooms (FYI they are all from countries other than Japan); a cosmetics area; some freezers with various meats/fish/veggies; kitchen/bathroom items; then aisles with candy (popping candy, jellies), different KitKats (found Cafe Latte and Ume Plum today!), and local brand Coconama chocolate bars (the Matcha Black Sesame is amazing), cookies (Country Ma'am, Koala's March), Choco Pies, Pocky/Peejoy/Picola, teas/coffees, sauces/vinegars/oils,noodles (soba/somen), canned/bottled/packaged sweets (like for Fruits Mitsumame), spices and dry packaged seasonings, dried beans (adzuki beans from Alberta!); fridges with canned/bottled drinks, jelly desserts and protein jelly drinks, Coconama truffles, savoury toppings/pickles; a meat/fish/fish cake section; more aisles with instant ramen, curries, pancake mix, furikake, potato chips, more candies and snacks, savoury and sweet rice crackers; and back to the front of the store skin/hair care products; some baked and seasonal goods; and cooking gadgets. No sushi/bento boxes but I think that is re Covid. Then there is candy/gum at the checkouts. So a good size store. Not too big/crowded and not too small with little selection. Just right!Daniel
