Stay away from the club until they make changes to the management - the board. Impossible people. The changes they made this year made us switch to a different club. They aren’t thinking about anyone else but themselves.

Review has been edited since the owners have apologized :)We had a rocky start with communication here, but the owners have apologized and things are looking a lot better. A good option if you're looking for local skating lessons.

This has long been a favorite community skating club in Toronto, but recently they have really upped their game even more. This season they brought in Canadian ice dancer and former world competitor Michael Coreno as program director. He is super knowledgeable about skating and coaching and also easy to talk to about our kids’ progress and program needs. They’ve also started a new transition program, Rising Stars, for kids who want to go from Canskate into figure skating – and this figure skating program is going to go places! The coaches are excellent. You can also just learn to skate for fun. Highly recommend.

We used to like to skate there, as it was close in the neighbourhood. The board drove away good coaches and made changes to the schedule without any meaningful consultation with the parents. They are accommodating certain skaters though at the expense of everyone else, benefiting the few and alienating most. Unfortunate.

I learned to skate there as an adult at age 38! I was interested in learning how to skate backwards and do forwards and backwards crossovers! By the time of year was over, I was jumping and spinning. I even competed at the end of my first year and won a gold medal! I loved this club but that was 20 years ago so I don't know what it's like now!

Awful experience. Both my kids were signed up for skating lessons this fall. The first lesson, the assessment, was chaos - far too many kids on the the ice. My youngest was placed in a group too advanced for her and struggled to keep up with the class. She kept falling and slipping, hurting herself but the instructor was too busy with the other kids to assist or even notice. After about 40 minutes of this and she was in tears, sobbing. My daughter tried to speak to one of the instructors who not once turned her attention to her. I watched from the side as she was totally ignored and finally pulled her off the ice myself. When I emailed Michael to express my concerns, he responded with one line about offering a credit for the lessons. He didn’t acknowledge what happened, didn’t even sign the email. My eldest daughter decided to drop out after a few more lessons because she didn’t receive any actual instruction. She was just told “Skate backwards” for example, without the teacher showing her how. I hope the new club leadership will be better managed, professional and have more compassionate and helpful instructors.
