Grand River Karate
Fantastic club...started by a few of the best karate-ka in the country. Well connected in an excellent international organization (Shido-Kan) this traditional Okinawan style emphasizes friendship and mutual respect. Tremendous with children, the group is dedicated to providing an enjoyable learning experience, basically charging enough money to get by with the rent. Very friendly and kind instructors.

This is a friendly, family-oriented club. The atmosphere is relaxed, but the instruction is no-nonsense, traditional Okinawan karate. I started when my daughter was 10 years old. She loved the club and instructed both children and adults. She left to go to university, but I've stayed ever since! And, by the way, the fees are about half those of other dojos.

I have trained in different martial art styles, and so far, my experience in Grand River Karate is the best. I love the Shidokan style. It’s very smooth and elegant, but deadly powerful. The best thing is you do not need to do a full split in order to deliver a good kick! This means that you can do it when you’re 90. The coolest moment here is someone who has over 40 years of training, bow to me with his warm smile: Thank you for training with me". And the price is so affordable :)"

We started with Grand River Karate when our oldest son was 5 years old (2004) and have been with them ever since. The instructors are exceptionally talented, with a passion for sharing their knowledge and making everyone feel welcome. The karate style (Shidokan shorin ryu) is a traditional Okinawan style that is very easy on the body yet very effective in self defense. Everyone is welcome... come out and try a class.

Great place to train Karate. Instructors are excellent in techniques and committed. They are also very patient and kinds to everyone. Highly recommended to everyone, esp., families with kids that want to spend good time training together!

This is an excellent place to train for seasoned practitioners and beginners alike. Every one of the senseis are talented, skilled teachers. Beginners receive lots of excellent one-on-one attention, instruction and encouragement. I’d recommend this Dojo to anyone looking to continue their Karate training or try it out for the first time. You won’t be disappointed!

This is a great place to learn Karate either as a beginner, intermediate or pro. Having many black belts in the class gives you the opportunity to learn from all of them and always have a sensei close to you to answer your questions and give you feedbacks.

I have been training here for about four months and am really enjoying it. It is a friendly, community oriented martial arts club. Classes are well organized and offer a good workout and path for progression and learning.

This is a great place to learn karate and meet great friends. No instructors with big egos and no drama. They are passionate about the art and care about your progress. It's like a big family. They also offer one of the best prices for training. If you want to try a class they offer a free trial and don't pressure you to join.

I've trained in other style and for me this club and style rocks. I'm in my 60's now and I want an activity that is body friendly, challenges my mind and I can do for many years. The people are extremely friendly and supportive here. I also feel privileged to be an instructor at Grand River Karate. A great way to give back. The club is also part of the Beikoku Assocation headed by Seikichi Iha who is the highest ranked Okinawan Karate Master in North America and is a world renowned master. He is very active in teaching and supporting us. Most of all, it keeps getting better and the learning never stops.
