These are very nice people. I reported our cat lost, and expected to never hear from them again. While sadly we have not found our cat, they followed up with us a week later, to see if we'd had any luck, with a charming email that showed concern.

Although my financial constraints and job made it difficult to pick up my poor puppy from the Vancouver Animal Services earlier this month, I must acknowledge a certain staff member: Sarah Engleson (Office Support Clerk III) at the Vancouver Development, Buildings and Licensing office at Raymur Ave. was incredibly compassionate, kind and patient with me (even after I had a major freak out on her, including yelling and swearing - my bad).Sarah kept it 100 percent professional, was still polite and understanding despite my awful treatment of her during our initial meeting. She even paid for two nights of fees for my poor dog out of her own pocket. If you witnessed how truly awful I was during the first interaction, you'd understand how much of a saint this woman truly is. LOL.GIVE THIS WOMAN A RAISE!!Plus, she spoiled my little baby while he was locked away, which I truly appreciated. Sarah Engleson is a GOLDEN GOD!

I have had 3 excellent interactions with this shelter. The first time, years ago, I brought the body of my deceased dog there to be cremated; the staff were kind, compassionate and caring. The next 2 times I adopted dogs from them (both older dogs). Each and every time I have been there I have been treated with respect. I value the time and effort the staff put into finding the right owner for a dog. Our last dog from them was 8yo when we got her. She lived with us for 6.5 years. She died last July at age 14. I would definitely adopt from VAS again.

These people do an outstanding job. This is not an easy job, and it is done out of compassion by amazing people. I would assume they would run into some negative contact with humans, but I truly believe they always have the animal's best interests at heart. Of course I also license & micro-chip my dogs, in the event one of them were to ever go missing I would know the staff at the shelter would be able to find me.

I was impressed by this shelter. It is obviously very well-managed. The facility is clean, spacious, and orderly. Various people went out of their way to help my dog and myself. When my dog was brought to me, he was calm and happy. Situations that bring pets to shelters can be very stressful to the pets and their owners. I really appreciated all of the professional and empathetic attention of the staff.

All the animals seemed very well treated and well housed, despite it being a small facility that has to care for many different types of pets. I adopted a rat [first-time rat owner] and all staff were very helpful, down to directing me to their rat person" [staff member that likes rats and has experience with them] for specific advice. Very positive experience

I adopted my dog at Vancouver Animal Shelter 4 years ago. It's the best decision I've made. I appreciate that they take applications for ownership of a pet, to try to adopt it to the best home possible. The staff seemed pretty friendly. I ran in to a city officer a couple years later and she remembered my dog and was excited to see her doing well. It's a good feeling. The adoption fee is fair and includes a spay/neuter of the animal. These animals will love you unconditionally.
