Al-Watan Tandoori

Food was authentic but authentically bad. Prices are low but the corners cut in ingredients and food preparation are unacceptable!Specifically, chicken karahi was an under sauteed curry. Biryani was boiled rice with chicken added as an after thought.The cook/owner is no longer interested. They should sell the place while their brand still has some value.

I really liked the whole experience about eating in this restaurant. It is a very warm and cozy atmosphere, the owner and the waiter are very welcoming, and are always walking around to see if you need something. The food was very very good and the price was the best part.If you want good food at affordable prices, this is the place to go. I would definitely be back again.

Horrible food. This has to be the worst Pakistani food I have ever had in North America. Flavourless curries, overcooked meats, similar curries used in multiple dishes and above all hands-down the worst biryani ever made without basmati rice, colored with Turmeric instead of traditional Saffron. Extreme cost cutting. I really don't know how this place shows up when you look up 'Best Pakistani food in Vancouver'. Either the people rating it don't have much experience with genuine Pakistani cuisine or the place seriously went downhill by the time I got to it.

It was great. The thaali although had NOT the things on it which were listed outside i.e. nehari, haleem , tandoori tikka etc. But it was plentiful. AMAZING Naans and they upped the price a dollar as well. All in all good and a great meal for a tenner. We will definitely be back.

Me and my family always order food from here and it is always delicious. Best quality, always made with fresh ingredients. Be sure to try out their lamb biriyani, it is amazing. Get them to add a jalapeño on it and you have one of the best dishes in the world. Al Watan is the best place on Fraser street to grab lunch or dinner.

Quite simply the BEST Pakistani and one of my favorite restaurants altogether in Vancouver! Looks can be deceiving, make no mistake, the food will blow you away. I've been going there for years and it's STILL the best food ever. It's even quite affordable...Edit: Oh wow, they redecorated recently, it's very beautiful now and the prices are still very low. I.e. most meat dishes under 10 bucks! Check it out!

Sad to see these recent bad reviews of a favorite restaurant of my family for gatherings! I don;t remember ever a bad experience in the past at Al-Watan but maybe though it has been awhile. We will dine today and if experiences are not perfect i will update this review to reflect our experiences!!

We went in with family and it was absolutely astonishing what we saw. We are Indian and have darker skin and were sat at a table. We then asked what he recommends, the person pulled out the menu and started pointing it out with his hands without even talking (seemed he was EXTREMELY annoyed by us asking).5 minutes later, a white family walked in and they received MUCH better service, explaining what each dish is, etc.The food was possibly the worst, and this is coming from someone who is never picky about food. The person himself told us the curry is from 3 days ago, and when we asked for salt, we were told eat it or leave. Embarrassingly bad experience, 1 start unfortunately.

I use to actually like this place since it was one of the only real pakistani cuisine in Vancouver. Then they changed something and now the food, the service, and the prices are absurd. I am never returning to this place, I will drive down to surrey for pakistani cuisine but will not return to this place. And their to top it all of, they will pack your food in foil paper. Like seriously they will throw your rice in foil paper and give it over to you and expect to be the norm. I was laughing at the servers when she gave me the bag.
