Bare Bones Fish House & Smokery in Port Alberni, BC is a fabulously scrumptious, totally gluten free restaurant! The food is fresh and great tasting, the atmosphere is friendly and warm and the service is prompt and professional even when really busy. The food is excellent, perfectly seasoned, freshly prepared and a delight for all gluten sensitive and Celiacs who can eat anything on the menu without fear of being impacted by gluten. What a relief! But the best news is that the food tastes great to everyone! There were a lot of very happy people eating in the restaurant when we visited! Visit soon this is soooo good! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fun fish shack. We had the bbq ribs, halibut and chips, cod bites, fennel fish chowder and pork belly tacos with slaw. Every item was great. Portions are big!

Bare Bones Fish House & Smokery
One of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. And the best part was this entire restaurant is gluten free, which was perfect for one of my friends. Chowder was to die for. So creamy and so good! The service was also amazing! This place was so good we went twice! Will always go whenever I’m on the island. Highly highly recommended!!

Bare Bones Fish House & Smokery
If you're looking for a fish and chips experience with a modern twist, look no further than the church-turned-restaurant in Port Alberni. The unique interior only adds to the occasion. While some items were unavailable during our visit, what we did try was tasty. Mainly their tempura-style batter on fish tacos and fish and chips. The only thing I didn't understand was why the chimichurri prawns were served with tortilla chips – there are so many better options that would have complemented this dish. But, overall, it was an enjoyable and unique dining experience.

Bare Bones Fish House & Smokery
We spent the day in and around Port Alberni yesterday. After visiting the salmon, otters and bears at Stamp River park, we arrived super hungry at Bare Bones. First time there and man they hit it out of the park. I had the cod tacos with garlic parmeeeeseeean (gotta honour my ancestors pronunciation) fries. My buddy had the slamon & chips. Both dishes were incredible and the prices were more than fair for what we got. Erin served us and despite it being a super busy room to work, she was GREAT! Highly recommended. :)

I don’t usually post reviews however, I had high expectations for this restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The food was terrible - overcooked, under-seasoned, and just plain unappetizing. The fish batter was not crispy as was advertised and it was extremely greasy, my wife had to remove the batter to make the fish somewhat edible. The prices were exorbitant, and I expected much better quality for the money.To make matters worse, the customer service was equally bad. The staff seemed disinterested in serving us, and it was difficult to get their attention even when we needed something. We were left waiting for long periods of time, and when we did receive our food it was cold and unappetizing.Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. The combination of awful food and bad customer service makes it a poor value for the high prices charged. I will not be returning.P.S. the pop was also flat, as if it had been left out for a few hours prior to serving.

The fish n chips and fish tacos were both fantastic! The batter was light and crispy, homemade tartar was amazing and the fish was fresh. The fries were soggy and a little disappointing but overall I’d still rate the food 5 stars. The service was lacking but not enough to drop the overall rating below a 4 star. Unfortunately the restaurant felt a bit grimey judging from the cleanliness of the high chairs, floors and bathrooms.

Ordered the 2 piece cod and chips, tasty but disappointing portion size. Fish was MAYBE 3 oz each but should be 5+ (industry standard). For the price ($22 + taxes) too much $$ for the portion size. Compare Wildside/Surfside grill in Tofino (far superior product IMO), for $19 + taxes you get 2 x 5-8 oz cod each! See photos for comparisons (first photo is Bare Bones). BB, please either reduce price of this or up portion size to reflect your competition. Thank you.

Ok, this place is a winner. If you have the people, share the platters. I rarely say this but beginning to end was excellent. This is a must when in town. We ate everything and only the coleslaw was available to take a photo!

Driving through town thought we would give this place a try. We like to try different restaurants when we go through here. Facilities are nice, cool, chill vibe, and the service is great. I do not recommend the so-called smoked chicken wigns." I don't know how they cooked the wings
