Free kayaking rentals on certain days, water is shallow, as in one to two feet, so no issue if you flip. Awesome area.

I live close and take my dog walking often. We kayak and fish the river, in season of course, truly is a magical place.

Second time doing this trail with my dog. Most of the trail is well kept and easy to follow. The final bit of it is a little messy, flooded and parts frozen over for the time being. But we were able to take little detours and complete the 4km in and 4km back out. The trail follows the river pretty much the whole time and makes for some beautiful scenery.

Trout River Natural Area
We hiked the trail the day after a heavy rain. Resulting in .... lots of standing water, ugh. Very slippery mud, double ugh. Very very hungry mosquitoes, ugh and run for your life. Bet on a less wet day, our experience would have been different. 3 km out and 3 km return. No loop.
