I adopted a beautiful pair of 3 month old kittens from AVA (Winter and Arctic) from the Oshawa Petsmart location. All the volunteers were really helpful, answered all my questions and I could tell the cats were well loved, well cared for and healthy. I can't imagine my life without my little fur babies - I would definitely recommend AVA if you are looking to adopt a cat (or two)!

Great experience adopting my beautiful rescue cat from this organization. Nothing but positive experience from talking to volunteers to being approved and taking my fur baby home!

I am so proud to be a member of Ava’s wonderful volunteer team. It all started when I surrendered a friends cat as she was ill and could not care for him. Ava found a lovely caring home for him. I was so impressed after seeing how the kitties were cared for and loved and the careful vetting to find for ever homes for these lovely kitties. Also I have fun stories to share at home after a shift of caring and playing.Twila Ava volunteer

An amazing, reputable animal rescue. Their cats are well cared for by volunteers and vetted prior to adoption. It's been heartwarming to witness so many cats adopted into their forever homes.

I applied to adopt a kitten to act as a companion for my family's cat. My family had previously adopted from this organization about 3 years ago. Denise called me and immediately asked when our cat's last visit to the vet was. I explained that her last vet visit was when we adopted her from their organization. She immediately denied my application without further questions saying that its part of their policy that we must bring the cat to the vet at least once a year. I understand the concern but her abrupt dismissal was not fair. I was unaware of this policy, and this policy is not directly stated on their website or in the application. My parents are both animal specialists and have worked with animals professionally their entire lives. We have always had cats who have lived long and healthy lives and I trust their judgement that our cat has not required a vet visit in the last 2 years. I truly believe that this woman has a god complex, she could see on my application that our cat had not been to the vet since her adoption. If this was a deal breaker then why even call me ? Its sad to see power hungry people running these organizations. I understand the need to be thorough but this came across crazy to me. I hope those kittens find homes soon.

I started out on my adventure with AVA when my daughter who had wanted to volunteer since she was very young turned 18. We went to the Scarborough PetSmart to find out how to become a volunteer. My daughter signed up on the website and was contacted to come in for an orientation. I went with her and decided to stay and also was trained that day. Volunteering for this organization is great. The other volunteers are amazing and we all treat every cat and kitten that comes through as if they were our own. Volunteering has also led me to become a foster and an adopter. Great care is taken to ensure that every cat is adopted to the perfect home for them.

Had an amazing experience with AVA! I got a stray cat and contacted AVA for a good match so my cat wouldn't be lonely and they found me the perfect match in a bonded pair and I couldn't be happierI would recommend them to anyone who's interested in adopting cats

We adopted our kittens from AVA. They were quick to respond to our inquiries and the adoption process went very smoothly. We love the kittens we adopted from them!

I'm committed to taking care of the cat from this rescue. But I did find the head lady, on the pet finder page to be somewhat arrogant and quick to assume that people are not responsible cat lovers. I believe that making negative assumptions about people doesn't actually benefit the cats, as we all want them to have healthy and stable lives. Unfortunately, when I wanted to ask questions by the end of the phone call, she seemed uninterested and even hung up on me with a cold ‘bye’. Despite this, I still appreciate the work this rescue does for cats in need.
