I would recommend this site over visiting on a boat tour. When we visited mid-June there were even some puffins hanging out on the mainland with us.

We came on a freezing, foggy, early June day and we were indeed able to see some puffins, but there weren't many and they were too far for my camera to capture. However, even if you don't see any, the journey is still worth it, as the landscape in this area is gorgeous- reminds us of the Irish Foothills.

Best place to see puffins and other birds. There are two small rocks from the edge of the cliff where the birds nest. We visited in mid September mad still was able to see puffins. June and August you will be able to see loads of them. Puffins are extremely small birds and a binocular is must to spot them.

It was foggy but one came to get his picture taken. The scenery is amazing. Loved it.

Awesome to see such wildlife and beautiful scenery close to us. Definitely worth the trip. Also check out the root cellars in that same area. Very cool!!

We have been to Elliston to see the Puffin Colony many times over the years and it is always a very enjoyable experience. The site affords you an upclose view of the colony of thousands of Puffins. The view of the ocean and coast is also beautiful. The area is very open to the elements so care needs to be taken when near the clifts. I would suggest you visit during good weather and avoid periods of high wind. The short walk to the colony is easy and should be manageable for most. To visit the site is free but donations are welcome. There is lots of parking at the site.

Amazing place where you can see beautiful high cliffs, crystal clear blue water and tons of puffins. I was fortunate enough to see some that were sitting right where people are and they were very close to me. My only problem with the place is there are no bathrooms of any kind nearby, not even an outhouse.

Ignorant me didn't read the reviews nor brought binoculars. The puffins are too small for me to see with the naked eye :(

Too late in the season to see puffins in September however the scenery was great and it was a quick and easy location to hike to.

We were there at dusk which was perfect! Very few people and all respectful of the puffins. Sat quietly and they landed within a few feet of us on the main land. Perfect for taking photos and the lighting was just right. Great views as well. Before leaving saw a silver fox go by... beautiful animal. Went back again during the day and the puffins were either in the water, flying or on the island which made it difficult to get pics of.
