Our Place Peel

I really like how safe and comfortable this shelter was and how staff were like family when they talk to you. Definitely really helped me get on my feet until..... one of the staff who also so happens to be part of the LGBTQ+ Community decided that it was clearly fair to accuse me; a straight black Male of disrespect and without actual warning band me from July or mid August until exactly my birthday which is October 14th. He also threw away my belongings. Staff say I should report him but I kinda let it go.

great place to stay. besides chanelle (a staff member) sleeping with/giving privileges to homophobic/transphobic residents and discharging trans and queer residents (several within a month) with no legitimate reasoning… can’t believe she’s still employed there. many of the staff (and residents) are actually very nice people as opposed to other shelters i’ve stayed in, the area is amazing, and the place is kept very clean. if you need to stay in a shelter, go for this one. but be careful if you’re trans! lol.

This place is incredible.. I moved in from Oshawa, they help you and definitely get you into a better spot. I'll forever be grateful for my time spent here!

If you are a youth between 16 and 21, this should be your first pick if you really want to get your life together. This place can help you as long as you allow them too and put in as much effort as they are. If you aren't putting in effort, why should they? Staff are kind and considerate as well as accomadating. This a non judgemental place and a place that you can feel safe. As long as you are respectful you will do great. Staff love to joke, so don't be afraid to crack a joke every now and again. This place has helped me not only emotiinally and mentally but it is the only shelter that has given me the belief that I could amount to something. They are 100% supportive and will help navigate you back on the path that will lead you to being potentially successful. I wish I had 10 thumbs because this shelter deserves it. Huge shout out to the supervisors, Amit and Udeshi for being 100% involved in helping youth stabilise through crisis, making safety there number one priority and ensuring that the shelter is constantly running smoothly, for both youth and there staff team!!!! Another shout out to Jenna the student, who is always ontop of her duties and works so hard that I couldn't even believe she was a student. She's a pretty awesome person. Shout out to Melanie as well for being the person anyone can talk to about their problems and having extensive listening and communication skills, that goes a long way. Overall, do, do, do, NOT hesitate about being placed at this shelter, you will like it and they will help you get back on your feet and transition onto semi independence or independence. Have no fear, for Our Place Peel is here. Just remember, you too, can be your own hero.

This place is a personal favorite!I actually was one of the kids in the house!The staff back then Yvvone, Alishya, Lindsey, Agatha were literally amazing! They guided and gave me amazing advice. Thank you for all you did, I wish all of you stuck around a little more so the rest of these kids could have had your guidance!Wish you all the best!
