Abbotsford Shotokan Karate Dojo

I have been learning karate from Sensei Harry Sidhu at Abbotsford Shotokan Karate Dojo for four and a half years. Quality of instruction is excellent! Classes are varied, comprising traditional Japanese karate and also feature components of self-defense, cardio/endurance, and weight-training. As a school teacher, I also see tremendous positive changes in the children who attend karate classes with Sensei Sidhu: the children are disciplined, attentive, co-ordinated, and co-operative.

I have been training with Sensei Harry for 7 years. The instruction in traditional karate and self defence has helped me build strength, character, and confidence. The dojo is filled with wonderful people who create an uplifting community that I look forward to being a part of every class. I have been training with Sensei Harry Sidhu for more than 4 years and it has been and still is a fantastic experience. Karate has made me stronger both physically and mentally, as it gives you a workout while making you stay focused on your technique and stance. At Abbotsford Shotokan Karate Dojo, we start out with a warm-up and then move on to doing basic karate and other things like kata. At the end we also learn self-defense techniques which is a very useful skill to know. Overall, this is a wonderful place to learn traditional karate, and get a good workout while you're at it.

My kids have been training with Sensei Harry and his instructors for 8 years. Other than his obvious passion and skills, the thing that impresses me most is that Sensei Harry emphasizes that Karate is for health, fitness and self-defense. I feel that this is very important coming from their instructor. I also appreciate that Sensei Harry is true to the traditional values and principles of Karate and passes those ideals on to his students. As a member of the Japan Karate Association, I love how my kids can travel and train with other JKA clubs and feel right at home. The training fees are also extremely reasonable compared to other clubs and sports! I highly recommend this dojo.

Sensei Harry has over 40 years experience in Shotokan karate. Over the years, he has been awarded black belt instructor qualifications in different Shotokan associations. His vast karate experience comes out in his skills and method of instruction. Sensei Harry is an active sensei - he competes yearly to show his ability. His experience in law enforcement is an additional asset which gives realism to his self defence and martial arts techniques. This dojo has the best balance of teaching karate in the traditional way according to Japanese guidelines, and making karate relevant to today's world. As a law enforcement officer myself, I can say that the skills that Sensei Harry teaches is real world stuff.This dojo is associated with the Japan Karate Association, the first and premier Shotokan karate association world wide. As a student in this dojo, I like having the option of training with a world class master at our headquarters dojo in Chilliwack, or with a different group at other affiliated dojos in Kelowna, North Vancouver and Tsawassen. I particularly enjoy training with the visiting senior Japanese masters who visit from Japan every year. Training in these environments take everything to the next level.I believe that none of the other clubs in town can surpass these benefits.
