The proprietor of the barbershop seems nice and is quite jovial, likes to spin a yarn. Haircut was solid. That being said, I came on here to write this review because I think that non-regulars deserve fair warning: there’s two prices listed for haircuts on the board. One price reads $17 for a short hair haircut and another states $22 for a long hair haircut. My hair wasn’t longer than 2-inches in length and I was dinged for having long hair. I certainly needed a trim, which is why I came to the barbershop, but 2-inches is not long hair during peacetime. The haircut only took about 10 minutes. Watched a bunch of regulars known by name with longer hair than mine get theirs done (for $17) before I hopped in the chair. It seems obvious to me that this two-tiered pricing system is a way to make non-regs pay more / charge arbitrarily. Talked to several other people and they have had the same or similar experience as mine.

I have been going to Sir Johnnies (or his father's barber shop) for a hair cut for over 35 years. I played baseball with Demitri many years ago and it is always a pleasure to renew acquaintances and talk sports when I returned to Kingston on leave and when I finally relocated back home. Sir Johnnie's is a classic no frills barbershop where you can rely on enjoying good conversation and leaving well trimmed while at the same time supporting a long time Kingstonian small businessman...also a big supporter of the Military and in my opinion should be the go to barber of the CFB Kingston community.

First demanded cash, then said he doesn't do mohawks. When I asked him why not, he said if I'm gonna question him I can go someplace else. Rude, but respectful. Wouldn't give him my money

I do no recommend going here, the reason being I was asking for a certain style of cut ( fairly basic, fade on the sides and lengthy on top). This led to because I have some thinner hair, a little baldness going on up top, what he thought would be better and that being the main conversation piece.I will say the guy can certainly carry a conversation and is nice, but for the haircut I wouldn't mind paying more and going to a more professional haircut.

ZERO STARSI am sure he is a great barber and has a loyal following but customer service is severely lacking or at least it was in my experience . I was refused service upon walking in with my son ......which is fine and i totally understand ALOT of barbershops are not comfortable with cutting childrens hair but being polite and kind is still important and we were not shown an ounce of either . Shame on you sir johnnies .....kindness can reward your bitter heartPS- too bad im an amazing tipper ;) cheers

Just called on the phone nicely asking if there was availabilty was met with a very rude tone saying I never do appointments always walk-ins" and then he proceeded to say he "only cuts peoples hair that he knows in Kingston and since he didn't know me wouldn't cut my hair" also asked where I live save your hair and don't let this "exclusive hotshot" barber anywhere near it"

First the good:Super nice guy. Great conversation and even offered a drink after the cut. Genuine and sincere. Now the bad:WORST-HAIRCUT-EVER.I wish I could post a picture. Incredible choppy and FAR from straight. The place just had a whole Grandpa vibe to it so if you're looking for something sharp/modern it may not be the place for you. If you're looking for something more conventional then perhaps you'll have better luck than I did.Sorry to say but I will never return.

Dimitri is a downtown tradition. A classic old school barber who gets the job done. I went to see his Dad, his brother and now him great service and care!
