We are absolutely thrilled with our new deck. We had an idea of what we wanted, and Fred designed a beautiful, solid three level deck, complete with pergola, that surpassed what we had envisioned. His team was extremely professional, true craftsmen taking pride in their work. Fred was a pleasure to work with, from our initial meeting, right through to the end of the project. He checked in regularly to update us on materials delivery, progress reports and to see that we were happy with how work was moving along. We would not hesitate to hire his team again for any renovation work. Five stars for this team!

The team was awesome to deal with. Changed a closed in area to an open concept. Complete transformation of the area. Excellent communications as the renovation progressed. The team was very professional. Would highly recommend them.

A water leak appeared in the second floor ceiling of my condo in February of 2020.Total Home Renovations were hired to fix the issue.Fred, the contractor assessed the situation, explained everything, and assured me it would be fixed to my satisfaction. I was quite leary, as I've had some negative experiences with work  done on my home in the past.Fred consulted with a reputable, nationwide roofing company to come in and fix the leak on the outside. Other structural issues were discovered and fixed at this timeThe deck on the third floor had to be removed and rebuilt to fix the leak.This was not an easy task with the cold temperatures, wind, the amount of snow back there and the high height of the deck from the ground. But Frank, the carpenter, completed it all rather effortlessly it seemed, with a great attitude.Inside my home, the main floor ceiling had to be torn out, insulated again, new gyproc and painted.I've had to deal with this leak issue before and it was supposed to have been fixed. When they left, a huge mess was left behind for me to tackle. I was not confident in their work and I was certain the leak would return, and it did. It was nothing but a hassle & frustration from beginning to end.It was quite the opposite with Total Home Renovations. Any questions or concerns I had Fred addressed them promptly. It was all very stress free for me,  but I know it was a difficult task, finding and fixing leaks during winter and tearing out ceilings and repairing them.I was very impressed with the condition my home was left in.There was very minimal clean up left for me. Working with gyproc is very messy and clean up can be a nightmare..I know from past experience. In my mind, the condition a home is left in speaks volumes. It shows the contractor and his team take pride in their work, are truly respectful and are not just there to get in and out to make a buck as quick as possible.I would highly recommend Total Home Renovations to anyone needing work done on their property. I would especially recommend them to those of us who really need someone they can put their trust in to do a quality, honest job. Female home owners, seniors, or those with health/mobility issues, I would especially point you in their direction.I can see certainly see why Total Home Renovations has won the Consumer Choice Award for St. John's and area for their work.Thanks guys for my beautiful new deck and new crack/leak free ceiling!

Total Home Renovation did a fantastic job on our full-bath renovation. Incredibly reliable and transparent; he always took the time to keep me up to date and let me know what was going on. If I had any questions, I knew that I would have an answer back in minutes. I left the design completely up to him and he did a gorgeous job. I will definitely be getting my kitchen done by him as well!

The only reason why Fred and the Total Home Renovations team are not getting 5 stars is because 5 stars denotes perfection and the only things perfect in this world are songs that give you goosebumps, a strong cup of Tetley, or a meatball hero sub from Salvatore's Pizzaiolo Trattoria in Halifax, NS.As a person who works in procurement for a living, three quotes are the essence of my profession. I would expect one to do the very same with any home related work involving contractors. My one recommendation is that one of those quotes always be from Total Home Renovations.Unforeseen home renovation work is always inconvenient, and despite any element of budgeting, a true setback. This summer was no different for my family. What started out as a basic bandsaw pine paint and replacement project ended up being something more problematic and potentially heartbreaking. Like any true Newfoundlander we sent out feelers to see if any family or friends could do the job. Between familial correspondence, random references and official requests for quotes, Total Home Renovations kept coming up. So I called Fred….Price will always be at the forefront when deciding any contractor. (Unless it is Muskrat Falls…) Fred was not the cheapest nor the most expensive, but my conversation with him made me certain he and his team were the right people for the job. Fred saw a lofty, lucrative project but seemed reticent to accept due existing client projects. In an age when customer service and quality takes a back seat to a quick dollar, it was this that sold me. Fred was willing to pass on a good project to ensure his existing customers would not suffer. Any raging capitalist would call that stupidity, but, any sound business-minded person would call that integrity. We were not going to have anyone else do the job.As the rotting layers of our “home sweet home” onion were pulled back, Total Home Renovations were there for every teary eyed layer. Fred took a vested interest in ensuring that not only was our house structurally sound, once again, but that all the details and little nuisances reflected our style.I write this months later with the job finished on schedule and within budget. More importantly, I now have a contractor in my phone who I will always rely on. I will still look for three quotes but one of those quotes will always be from Fred.

Total home renovations is by far the best company we've ever worked with. They are highly skilled, detail oriented, friendly, patient, and very hard working. We hired them to do an interior stair reno, which was a fairly big project and they completly exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend these guys to do any renovation in or outside your home. We couldn't be happier, we will never go anywhere else!!! Fred, you and your team are the best!!!!

Fred is exceptional towards his employees. He loves to work hard and hardly pays his employees in full. His lack of responsibility and knowledge in safety is concerning.I dropped by his house to ask for a week's pay that he owed. In his words I will punch you in the face

I hired Total Home Renovations to do a complete renovation on my dated bathroom and I am beyond happy from the professional service, quality work, to the extensive knowledge of all areas that required attention. Fred made excellent suggestions based on his years of home renovation experience, always kept me informed, was never pressured and always quick to answers any of my endless questions. Being the only bathroom at my disposal, they ensured the job was completed quickly, on budget and took the time to ensure all details were covered and that I was completely satisfied with the finished product. The professional service provided by Total Home shows they stand by their work and I would not hesitate to refer them to family or friends and I would definitely use them again. If you are thinking of doing a home renovation, then Total Home Renovations is the company that you would want to trust with your investment!

The owner of this company Fred Nichols is extremely unprofessional, rude and cut throat. He behaved inappropriately , spoke to me in a very rude manner and over charged for the work. He made our working relationship very stressful with his ignorant and unprofessional behaviours and would not complete the work he signed on to complete. He left our home in a complete mess and never came back to clean up all the garbage he had left behind. It was a danger zone for us and our kids. They are very messy workers and never clean up after themselves. This renovation was a nightmare for our family and caused a lot of stress for us. I would definitely NOT recommend this company ever!
