Dr. Perez is a great vet and always treats our two cats with care. My husband and I appreciate his directness and expedient treatment. We look forward to the opening of his new location and pray for comfort amid the loss of his clinic.

I had an emergency with my little Pomeranian mix elderly lady-dog, and I haven’t liked my experiences at other vets in the area. I have a lot of animals and I have moved all over the country and even back and forth to Hawaii with all my cats and dogs…any even some chickens….which is labor intensive and very costly, but shows you how much I love my animals. I also rescued dogs and cats off the Big Island during the volcano eruption in 2018. So I have seen a lot of vets. I can’t stand a vet’s office that feels like a shopping mall, with ads on some big screen and a constant turn around of vets and techs. It just feels like a money making place that lacks the heart of a quiet vet who is competent and, most importantly, has real heart. So when I walked into Java clinic, the same day that I reached out for assistance btw, with my little Pom girl, it was the antithesis of the “shopping mall vet.” It’s a very nice quiet place, but has the feeling of competence.I knew my girl had serious bladder stones but with her age and her heart murmur, surgery was always a sketchy option. Dr. Perez isn’t a man who will walk in with small talk and a glib smile, but refreshingly, he was very focused on my dog, and knew exactly what was going on in a matter of minutes. I knew as well too because I had taken her to several vets. He recommended surgery, right then and there.I was hesitant because I didn’t know him, and am not the kind of person who trusts anyone with my pets. He told me the odds were 50/50. But he was going to check her during after hours which is very important to me, since I lost a dog after she was spayed because no one was in the office to check on her after closing time.I agreed to the surgery.I picked her up the next morning, and she looked great! I have never since any of my pets look so well after surgery. The stone was the size of a small egg! He obviously took very good care of her, and treated her with kindness and sensitivity. She is urinating normally! And he charged half of what the other vets had told me it was going to be.I will be taking my other animals to Java Clinic while I am in the area.Next to her is the stone from her bladder! She is on the mend and has a new lease on life.

Dr. Perez & his staff were able to get my dog in on the day I called, after her normal vet (of 6+ years) was unable to give us an appointment for multiple days. Dr. Perez listened to my concerns and talked me through various ideas on how to resolve them. He doesn’t price gouge either, unlike other offices in the North Country. We will be using this office for all of our family pets going forward.

TL;DR: New clinic location does not have adequate equipment to treat emergent cases at this time. Doctor is kind, competent and resourceful. However....... I was informed to come to Java's for an emergent case that they could not treat, which ended up prolonging the time until my pet got the life-saving treatment they needed.I called Java's looking for an animal hospital after my 3lb, 12 week old puppy ingested a toxic amount of ibuprofen. The staff on the phone were very polite and informed me their services were limited due to their recent move to a new location after their clinic fire. The staff checked with the hospital, and then informed me they could evaluate and treat my puppy. When I arrived, I filled out a form and was roomed. The Doctor came in and examined my puppy and then talked about what vaccination shots to give her. I clarified with him the reason why I was there, and he was immediately concerned. He said he didn't have the equipment currently for IV fluids and blood work to monitor the dog's renal function. He then left and brought back a half used IV fluid bag and told me to hold my dog down while he gave a subcutaneous fluid bolus (and in hindsight, I don't remember a new needle, but this could have been placed prior to him returning). While this was traumatizing for me and my pet, I understood the reasoning, and appreciated the prompt treatment. His plan was to administer the subcutaneous boluses over the next day (he did not have IV catheters for a continuous infusion), and since he didn't have lab equipment he told me to call another veterinary clinic to inquire about lab work, bring my dog there, then bring her back to Java's. I do want to say, that his treatment plan made sense to me from a medical perspective, and he was working with what resources where available to him. However, I didn't appreciate being told they were equipped to treat and monitor an ibuprofen toxicity when they obviously were not. Given the severity of my puppy's condition and need for more acute care, I called the St. Lawrence Valley Animal Hospital in Cornwall, ON, and told them about the situation. They told me to come over immediately. As soon as I entered their hospital they whisked my puppy away, placed an IV, gave her medications to induce vomiting and to prevent stomach ulcers, got blood work to check her kidneys, and are going to monitor her overnight and recheck labs. I wish I had gone there instead, I would've at least not been crying when talking to the border guards....

I do not recommend this vet at all. He has no compassion for our furbabies. Recently had to have a 13 pound dog euthanized due to old age and he had to do it twice because he didn't do it right the first time. He left us in the room with the dog and we thought he had passed. Perez comes back in with another syringe and says, Let me try the other leg". Talk about heartbreaking! Then when it was over

I took my cat there for urinary issues a month ago. I just got home from rushing my cat to the nearest Ana in Al hospital an hour and a half away, because java did absolutely no testing and did not take my concerns seriously. I don’t know if he’ll make it, I could’ve caught the issue a month ago but you know.

13/10 recommend this. Reasonable price, Dr takes his time to explain things to pets owners and money is the last thing they care about.

I’ve known Wilfredo since he came to town. His old book keeper is a dear friend and he’s always been my fur babies veterinarian. Always fair and never afraid to tell me when I need to do better for my animals. He is a blessing for our community.

We recently took our cat to Java’s vet for a dental surgery and had an absolutely horrible experience. The vet did not take the time to properly examine her, misled us into thinking they could perform the needed surgery when they did not have the proper equipment, and was short tempered, very rude, and rushed us out without properly explaining the process. When we first brought our cat in, he took a quick look at her teeth and said that she needed some teeth removed as she had some rotting teeth under her gums. We were told that the surgery would be done in-house and that we would be able to pick her up the same day. However, when we came back to pick her up, we were told that the surgery had not been done because the vet did not have the proper equipment, including an x-ray machine and all he did was a basic cleaning of her teeth. We were still charged the full price despite the cleaning having done nothing to address the original issues with her teeth which was why we went to him in the first place. The following few days, our cat threw up violently and was having severe diarrhea. We then took our cat to another vet who told us not only should she not have been given any antibiotics, which is what caused her to be so violently ill, but that no competent vet would ever administer a dental exam (cleaning or otherwise) without doing an x-ray first. We were very disappointed, frustrated, and hurt by this experience. He not only broke our trust, but made our cat suffer unnecessarily, and took the money we had saved for our cat's surgery, and now we have to pay another vet for a whole new surgery.WE ARE NEVER GOING BACK HERE AGAIN AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!
