I went for a yard sale. They had quite a lot to choose from. Ended up going home with new dishes, a few books, some baked goods and a plant. Bummed there were no dogs to pet but there were some cute kittens around.

Rural location hard to find entrance, not great signage . North side of road. Many many cats for adoption. They all have lovely living space.

I have been fond of cats since I was a kid and I've never came across such an amazing organization. From the beginning you can tell they genuinely care about the cat and have no problem keeping the cat until they find the right home. With over 150 cats to choose from your bound to find an amazing furry friend or two. As other reviews have said they are strict and will ensure that the cats interest comes first. An amazing organization!

The most lovely team of rescue volunteers work here. They are providing so many deserving kitties a loving home to stay as they wait and pray for their forever homes. This rescue also stops at nothing when it comes to providing medical care to these pets.. meaning they are willing to shell out whatever amount of money it takes to ensure these cats are given the best medical care possible.. they do not give up on pets who have special needs or illnesses to treat. Phyllis and George, the owners, are amongst the most lovely people you could meet.

Truly a sanctuary for cats (no kill). Two amazing features are 1) the cats are allow to roam free in their rooms (except for a few cats that are too wild). Each cat also has its own cage/home/pen and access to an outdoor pen. Surprisingly, with over a hundred cats, they get along very well. 2) Visitors are allow to visit and socialize with the cats. Its an amazing place to spend an hour or two. Thank you to the kind and friendly caregivers. Please visit or volunteer or adopt or donate!

I was denied because I have kids. So instead of having a loving home this cat will sit in a cage all day...

I used to volunteer here a while a ago and adopted a kitten from here. It was a very rewarding experience helping to look after the animals and was great to be with people who really cared about the animals. The sanctuary mostly adopts out cats - as there are a LOT of homeless cats in the GTA region and most shelters are at full capacity. If you are looking to adopt a cat or two I would recommend this place. The cost may seem expensive upfront (in comparison to 'free' kittens) but this includes the spay/neuter procedure, shots and micro-chipping which are all much more expensive at a vet clinic than the adoption fee.The only thing that might get to some people is that the volunteers are more strict on who they adopt a cat too (i.e, no cats are going to be outdoor cats, no declawing). This is usually a matter of owner education and can be readily corrected. This is something I found that does not come up with other shelters (i.e, Durham Region Humane Society) as much as it should. These policies are in place so the animals are not adopted out to people who will quickly change their minds and return it.I hope that the sanctuary gets more spotlight from the community. Lots of nice animals to choose from including ones that are older and have special care requirements.

They take very good care of their cats. Friendly volunteers and you get a hands on viewing. Politely ask staff if you can play with the cats outside their cage. Also, feel free to walk in the buildings, it's mainly under video surveillance rather than being personally supervised so just walk in.

Very caring people who wants the cats to go to good homes. They make sure the cat is a good fit for the home it's going to thru a mini interview with the adopter.

Second Chance recently was at the Pet Smart in Pickering and my daughter completely fell in love with a little kitten named Suzie. So, being animal lovers we are and myself growing up with pets, we decided to inquire about adopting Suzie with a lady named Phyllis, who is a representative with Second Chance. During this inquiry, my partner had mentioned that we may have the cat outside with us at times. Not unsupervised and being the local stray tom cat in the neighborhood but with us to play. Phyllis had told my partner that they do not like cats being outside period and immediately took the kitten from my daughter's arms and began to humiliate us as if we were bad people/animal abusers in front of a group of people who were also looking at the kittens on display. Now, I can understand that Second Chance wants to assure their kittens are going to a good home so, I attempted to come to an understanding with Phyllis so that we would take their advice and not take the cat outside but she already had her mind made up that we were some sort of evil. My daughter was crying and I personally have never been so humiliated in my life and in front of complete strangers.I was prepared to buy everything we needed to give the kitten a good home and Suzie would have surely been loved greatly. We made 4 trips to speak with Phyllis but she would not trust our word and in the end, stuck by her decision to not adopt to us.Word of advice to anyone dealing with Second Chance Rescue. They do not believe in second chances and they certainly are not willing to help out loving families to give advice to providing a good life for pets. They are judgmental and evil. Just as Phyllis's eyes paints her out to be.Hey Phyllis, I'm sure you've seen a lot of bad things in regards to how pets are treated but don't you dare paint everyone with the same brush. And maybe be a little more professional in how you deal with people wanting to add to their families with a cute little kitten. Mentor them, don't judge them because they ask the wrong question. You made me sick to my stomach and felt like throwing up.that is all !!!
