I have been ordering frozen and canned from St. Jean's Cannery & Smokehouse for a few years now and so enjoy their products during the winter months and have had excellent services on deliveries with no concerns. Emily

For Christmas we thought we’d indulge and try different St Jeans packs of smoked salmon and smoked mussels. Absolutely disgusting. All of the St Jeans products were slimy and Ive never seen very dark brown hard salmon that was all bloodline! It was all so strongly fishy tasting and was completely inedible by 8 people. Down the toilet it all went. Hours later, the one bite we each had of the salmon and mussels are still “repeating” on us and we are munching on Rolaids and Pepto. We are sadly repulsed as we had such high hopes and ticked off as it was not cheap. We will go back to making our own or purchase from other favourite companies. GROSS.

Beware of WHEAT GLUTEN in St Jean's shrimp pate ! We were unable to read the Nutrition Facts on the reverse of the label because it was completely glued to the can. Wheat gluten doesn't belong in any canned seafood products.

1 star rating for very poor customer service. I had never been to a cannery in the past, I was advised of their services. I called this morning to ask what the “rules” were, and if I needed to make an appointment. I wanted ~18 salmon filleted, and packaged. They gave me the price, it was a done deal, I said I would drop off the fish later that afternoon and they agreed. I travelled for an hour with my young 20 month old son to then show up with “no guts in fish” signs posted everywhere. They told me they would not accept my fish unless it was gutted. I explained that I had phoned earlier on for “rules/guidelines etc” I was told to just drop the fish off. They literally said “go home, gut your fish, and come back tomorrow”. I explained again that I had to work tomorrow and I can’t just go and do that with my young son. They still refused and also said “we were filled out past the gate today, the rules changed probably two hours after your call”. I didn’t want to argue so I just left.

Dropped off a catch for the first time! Staff was very kind and patient, gave us a list of options.We will be back to pickup & then we can enjoy.

Lots of hours to those who want em.Was a great experience and great training.The fish processing staff is so friendly and helpful.

This company probably could beat any record for worst customer service ever.They lost my entire custom-smoking order 3 years ago (my previous review below), but they did eventually replace that fish with own spring salmon stock. So in November 2022 I dropped another ~25lib of fish for smoking. Bad idea! Now, 4 months later to (not so much) surprise, they cannot locate my order again! Consistently with their customer-care" style they also promised me to call back at least 7 times in the last month

They make the best smoked Salmon I have ever had

All St. Jean's products I have tried are excellent quality and absolutely delicious (smoked salmon and tuna are a must try)! Many family and friends have also brought their catch to the cannery on Vancouver Island for processing and the results are just as incredible! Excellent customer service in person in Nanaimo, and online orders with shipping across Canada is fantastic!
