Marilyn is awesome! She provided me with so many tools to look for not only a job I’d be interested or good at but the values that are important to you. Really well rounded experience and I plan to keep playing around with these tools. Plus I was able to get a new job that i’m really looking forward to starting in a few weeks!

Marilyn helped me identify some of my primary interests and abilities. As a result, I am more clear on the aspect of my field I want to pursue. I am a psychotherapist in private practice in the Bucktown area of Chicago. I have only positive things to say about Marilyn, as do my own clients who have worked with her as an adjunct to their own therapy. Marilyn is extremely professional and reliable. She uses targeted assessment tools to gage clients' needs and values in order to help them determine the best path forward. She is holistic in her approach, so she takes into account the big-picture when zeroing in on particular obstacles that each client is wrestling with. She is simultaneously warm and genuine, and totally professional. I always feel very confident in referring my clients (and friends) to Marilyn.

I met Marilyn in the beginning of summer 2020 when I was starting to think about attending graduate school. I wanted to get back into psychology, which I studied in undergrad, and was unsure how to approach this. I was working in sales at the time and was still hesitant to leave this field and felt lost. Marilyn helped me to better understand myself and my future goals with assessments/online tests and worksheets we talked through at our meetings. She helped guide my research of what is possible with a higher degree in psychology and the differences between social work and counseling. Our conversations were very beneficial and she provided me with many contacts which helped in my information interviewing of counselors, social workers and psychologists. Marilyn ultimately helped me to feel confident in my decision to move out of ad sales and commit to applying to a Psy.D program in clinical psychology. She then helped with my application process and assisted in my essay writing. I am happy to share that I will be beginning a five year program to earn a Psy.D in the fall of 2021 - all thanks to Marilyn! She is very kind, organized and professional and I genuinely enjoyed our time together, even though it was over zoom! I will always be grateful for how much she helped teach me about myself and will definitely go back to her in the future if I need to!

Working with Marilyn has not only been extremely helpful for job searching, but has also given me overall confidence outside of the sessions. She takes the time to listen and adapt her teachings to fit my work style.

There are very few professional career counselors who I would recommend as highly as Marilyn Fettner. Not only is she skilled in objectively assessing a client’s needs, aptitudes and interests but she has the gift to see past the objective data and tune into the person behind the tests. She also is a remarkable trainer and coach using her years of experience in the corporate world to help clients ready themselves for interviewing as well as helping them learn the skills necessary to thrive in their jobs. I have referred people to Marilyn - from those just starting out in their career to those people who have worked for years and are looking to the next step. After working with Marilyn, they have reported that the experience was extremely valuable both in the present and learning skills to take them into the future.

I decided to see Marilyn after a particularly difficult time in my previous career. I needed a change and was hoping for some insight into a new path and she exceeded all of my expectations. She is a great listener and when she chimes in with her thoughts she is pointed and insightful. You can tell she really enjoys what she does and cares very much about helping people find a satisfying career. I ended up going in a direction I never would have considered had we not met and I am very pleased with the results. 10/10!
