Authentic Japanese restaurant in Burnaby. Excellent and fresh food and tea, beautifully presented! One of the best sushi and sashimi I ever had, with real wasabi and ultra fresh fish! The chef and staff are very welcoming, attentive and talented. Arigatō, merci!

One of the best authentic Japanese sushi restaurant in town. Fresh ingredients, top notch Japanese cuisine from Japanese owned restaurant. None of these Korean hybrid sushi joints that's trending. Do try to notice the difference. You're going there for the food.

Small and busy. Good food and a nice quiet place not overburdened by loud music to talk over, thus increasing the volume floor of the room.We tried to find a menu online, but all they have is an Instagram page with pictures of some dishes, without pricing. This forced us to go in for a dining experience. I do wish the cleanliness standards were higher though.

Well priced good and fresh sushi. Charashi don was delicious! Sometimes they are super busy and sometimes it's quiet. Make a reso just in case!

Kazu Japanese Restaurant is a small but busy restaurant located on the Hastings corridor in Burnaby. The interior isn't much to look at and the walls are plastered with various special menu items but you shouldn't let that detract you from visiting. While looking for some Japanese eats in late September, we stopped by this place for a quick lunch. The food came out fairly quick and most items turned out pretty good. We started with an order of Gomae ($3.95) which is a serving of boiled spinach that's been mixed with a sesame dressing. While generally served chilled, I found this dish to be just a bit too cold for me. Honestly, that's probably the worst thing that I have to say about this place. Our next dish was the Assorted Sashimi ($18.75) which included tuna, wild salmon, tako (octopus), hamachi (yellowtail), scallop topped with fish roe, amaebi (sweet shrimp), and some type of thin, white sashimi which had a clean but crunchy texture (assuming it was some type of conch or whelk). The tuna was very good as it was served at the right temperature and was buttery to the bite. While I liked all of the sashimi here, the one that really stood out to me was the hamachi - super tender. They also brought out a freshly fried shrimp head (which I think would have been presented better if it came out on the same plate as the sashimi).Next up was the BBQ Wild Salmon Belly ($4.50) - another solid dish with buttery and fatty salmon belly. The smallish Deep-Fried Oysters ($5.50 for 3 pieces) were served with a thick, brown, tonkatsu sauce. These fried morsels were piping hot with a crunchy exterior coating which kept the meat on the inside super juicy. We finished off our meal with their signature Kazu Roll ($11.75). A bit on the expensive side for a roll but it contained tuna, salmon, scallop, masago, crab meat, lettuce, and mayo. At first, I thought the pieces were cut a bit too big but that was just because there was so much filling. It held up pretty good and didn't really fall apart like some other house rolls I've had before. The mayo added a nice creamy aspect to the roll without being overly saucy.Overall, I was quite pleased with the food here.

Great quality sushi! A little bit more pricey than other places but the quality of the sushi and sashimi more than makes up for the differences. Service is a little slow especially when they are busy but would recommend them, especially for take out!

This place is everything about how sushi should be like! They make their own Wasabi in traditional style, use fresh, and choose not to over do the flavor. They cook their Tamago, the egg omelet sushi themselves, unlike some sushi places buy from market. Their Tamayo is very uniquely flavored with strong fragrance. Their Toro tastes buttery, and their octopus is actually soft. Unlike some octopus from other sushi restaurants that taste like chewy rubber. They proudly showcase the fresh, raw taste and texture of each ingredient with delicate seasonings. Service is great, and you get your food served fast. If there's a reason why they only open for 3 hours a day, it would probably be that they want to offer a high quality of restaurant experience. Definitely recommend.

Very good sushi with fresh prawn, salmon. Portion of Seaweed salad is quite small, and nothing is special.
