Sala Thai
We used to eat once a week at Simply Thai in Yaletown. I didn't realize at the time that the cuisine suitable for the Royal Thai family is different. In June, we had a refreshing meal in Point Ruston's BoRan Royal Thai. Wanting to repeat that experience, we decided to try Sala Thai on Burrard St. We ordered Sala Thai Chicken Satays, Pla Rard Prig, and Pad Prig Khing. The satays were tender, reminded me of sous vide chicken tenders because there was very little evidence of charbroil or grilling. It came with peanut sauce on the side and no other seasoning on the chicken which was unusual for us. When I ordered the deep fried Basa fish, I was not expecting the dish to be drenched in red curry paste. We liked the fish, but we found the curry paste too aggressively spicy for for our stomach. Actually, the photos I took was the moment of my taste buds registered the spicy red curry of the beef and green beans – I want to remember this place with the blur of my burning mouth. We did not enjoy the sautéed green beans at all. When I cook green beans, I usually blanch the beans for 3 minutes. These green beans were raw and tough and the beef tough and dry. Apart from the chicken satays, we did not finish our meals. We are not strangers to Indian curry, but the curries here caused our stomachs massive acid problems. I have to conclude that we need a lot of 'training' before we can come back for the aggressive curries in this place – but why bother indeed?!

SALATHAI (Vancouver - Takeout)8.7/10 Overall8.8/10 Food Quality8.2/10 ValueOverall, the food was great! No real complaints. I would come back here again for dine in, or takeout! I think the last time I came here was like 5-10 years ago… totally forgot about this place! Glad I re-discovered it =)SALATHAI SPRING ROLLS $6Mixed vegetables and vermicelli noodles wrapped and deep-fried. Served with homemade sweet chili sauce & ground peanuts. These were good, but nothing amazing.7.5/10SALATHAI CHICKEN SATAY $10Marinated & grilled meat skewers. Served with our homemade peanut sauce & cucumber salad. These were ok. I’ve had much better elsewhere6.5/10GRILLED PORK JOWL $11Grilled pork jowl marinated in Thai herbs and spices. This one was good. Good but not amazing. Could use some kind of sauce to give it more of a punch.7.8/10GAENG DANG RED CURRY $18Bamboo shoots, bell peppers and Thai basil leaves, Cooked in red curry with coconut milk. This was really good! You have to order rice in addition to this.8.8/10PAD THAI $18rice noodle dish with shrimp, egg, tofu, bean sprouts and ground peanuts. This was a pretty solid pad Thai. One of the better ones in town!9.2/10PAD SEE-IEW $18Stir-fried wide rice noodles in soy sauce with broccoli, egg and black pepper. WOW! This one we thought was tastier than the pad Thai!9.5/10

The food is not bad but I’ve had better. The tom yum soup is too sour and doesn’t look appealing, pad thai tastes great but would love a bit more protein for the price. Dessert is pretty good. Extra point for the super nice waitress.

Probably one of the slowest service in Canada. The good thing is it wasn’t a heavy smell inside unlike other asian restaurants. Everything we ordered was too sweet, I prefer especially the pad thai more spicy.Be careful if you are ordering from lunch menu, the portions will be smaller.

Tom yum seemed very budget, but the grilled pork jowl, and Pad Thai were delicious. Dessert was jack fruit (canned) with sticky rice, decent but nothing crazy. I would go back to try a few other dishes sometime.

Ordered for takeout:Spicy Drunken Noodle with BeefGreen Curry with ChickenReceived:Spicy Drunken Noodle with ChickenGreen Curry with BeefSo, there was that. Also, what I found strange was...no where on their menu does it indicate that the curry does not come with rice. You have to order it separately. So, we got Green curry with no rice...it's like...please go ahead and enjoy it as a soup instead. If you want rice make sure to order it. It doesn't come with the curry dish....why? Maybe there are people out there that eat Curry on its own? Without any rice or bread? I have no idea. To me serving someone Curry without anything is like....serving someone a burger without fries. If the fries are not included it's always stated, and so should've this whole Curry/Rice thing on their website.Aside from their mixup with the chicken and beef and no rice situation....the actual taste of the Noodle dish and the Curry was quite nice. Not sure if I'll be back because they have so much competition in the area, and besides it shouldn't take so much effort just for them to get your order right and then get it wrong.

The food was delicious. Good service, waiter was friendly. We were celebrating my boyfriend birthday here, they gave us a complimentary coconut ice cream dessert. Which was nice of them. I highly recommend this lovely restaurant.

Pad Thai Chao Wang is a must if you love a good pad thai! I’m very picky with my pad thai taste and to my surprise it was delicious and took me back to my trip in Thailand. Staff is super nice and the atmosphere is great and chill.

I love this place because it is beautifully decorated. It's a nice stop for dinner after a movie at Scotia Theatre or just walking around downtown. Be aware on Mondays it's closed. My favourite dishes include red curry, but the place's winner is the deep-fried banana dessert. I love that the coconut ice cream is dairy free so I can enjoy it without worries. Also, mocktails are delicious, far from the usual drinks you can find in other restaurants. The staff is lovely and we really enjoy eating there.
