The McAlpine House

Lija and Charlie(the cat) were amazing hosts. Charlie stayed out of the house in case anyone dislikes cats. My parents and I booked one room for less than $150. We loved the kitchen area. We shared one fully equipped kitchen and two spotlessly clean bathrooms. There were lots of boardgames if you have time to kill.The house was filled with antiques but not cluttered. There was an article and some pictures on the wall so you can learn about the history of the house.The only cons is that some cigarette smell embedded in the furniture. Suggest you bring your own purifier or spray to cover the smell if you are highly sensitive.If I am ever in the area and need to stay for a night or two, I will definitely stay in McAlpine house again.

This place is a hidden gem! Truly a treasure preserved from Ontario's past... for all to experience! Thanks very much to our kind Host, Leah - we really enjoyed our stay. The accomodations are soooo lovely, cozy and clean and the historic ambiance is both fun and relaxing. We'll be back!

We loved this place! We are hoping to go back for absolutely no reason just to stay here again. Spent a weekend geocaching in the area and found this place by accident. The room was fab, the host was lovely and the space was incredible on so many levels. Loved our stay and will go back again, a hundred percent.

The people that gave it bad reviews may have not really understood what they were signing up for. Shared bathrooms of which there are of 2 of them is not an issue unless you are so fat that you require 2 toilets in 2 separate rooms or 2 showers to fit into. The place was immaculate and amazingly there was not a single fly a big deal when you realize how far in the country it is. Breakfast is not included and for the price it shouldn't be. I would question where the meat came from at that price if it did! There is a kitchen that has enough gear in it you could make bread or any meal you wanted. Im sure 5/5 Italian gradmas would agree. Seriously, we traveled from NB and out of all the places we stayed this was simply the best. Lija was fantastic her cats were pettable though they live outside and really was a fantastic gracious host. We look forward to staying with her in the future.

Place is not a bed and breakfast. Stayed 1 night and neighbours had music cranked up loud and partying. This place does not offer breakfast. Has a shared washroom was clean. Bed was soft. Has common kitchen with all dishes and toaster,fridge,microwave. i suggest bringing food as its not close to bancroft.Has a hot tub out back, no stairs to get into tub you need to stand on a chair.Would not recommend ,nor visit again.

The owner is awesome! Very comfortable stay. Bonus: The place has quite a bit of history to it.

The owner is awesome; she was very accommodating about our late check in. The place is so charming. It is clean (sheets need to be changed after every guest though) and conveniently located. Free Keurig coffee is included. Super clean bathrooms. There's a smoke smell which I didn't appreciate, but everything else was perfect.

Superb location for ice climbing! Debbie Double D's and I have stayed her often, and Lija is always an excellent hostess. She really saved us tonight when I skidded Debbie's car off the road and we ended up in the ditch. We hitched a lift back home" cuz it was -15C outside

Lija is an amazing host. She is very friendly and sociable, explained and showed us everything. There are 4 nice rooms 2 bathrooms and a beautiful kitchen with a dining room. Fridge and stove, microwave coffee and tea if you want to bring some food to make everything is there for you. The property is beautiful. Loved it here !!

We stayed at McAlpine House is a hidden gem Lija is a nicest host you can wish for after a long drive. The cleanliness of the house deserves an A+. The house was built in 1907 and its antique atmosphere has been kept in spite of having all modern tech fitures
