Highroads Medical Clinics (NOT A WALK IN CLINIC)

Medical care is top rate, but to echo the other comments about the phone system, it is abysmal. It is generally 30 minutes minimum to get through on the phone, and lately I've been calling to chase down prescriptions or requisitions that were supposed to have been sent. I dread when I have to call there for any reason. I have tested my theory that they aren't actually on the phone at all. I have been in an empty waiting room awaiting my appointment and have called the number. No one is on the phone. They are talking to each other. No one ever picks up. I feel this is definitely a problem that needs to be addressed.

After about 10 years with her, I can say with great confidence that Dr. Bootsman is by far the best doctor I've ever encountered. She's thorough and always makes me feel like she's truly listening with my best interest at heart. Despite her being incredibly busy, I am seldom left waiting past my appointment time to see her, which is so rare at a doctor's office! I really don't know how she manages it. She's also incredible with my kids. We've been very fortunate to have Dr. Bootsman as our family doctor; I'm so grateful to have been referred to her.The front desk staff is friendly and professional, and obviously worked hard to make the transition to the new office as seamless as possible. I can't say enough great things about our experience here!

We love our family doctor, Dr. Ayling. Even we have to wait for many hours to see him. I have heard many patients talked about him when we were waiting for our turns. Everyone said it is worth to wait, he is an amazing doctor. He is a legend! Staff changes a lot. We have some favorite and friendly staff so far, and most of them are working professionally, but a few of them are rude, unfortunately... overall we still love to go there!

I come from a family of physicians. My parents both have practices and work in the hospital so I am very familiar with the burdens being placed on offices and doctors AND I am acutely sensitive to receptionists as this can make or break your experience for a routine or not visit. I’ve been a patient of doctor Tang’s since 2019, I found him as my GP after moving from Ontario because my friends family doctor is doctor Boatsman(sp?) who unfortunately wasn’t taking in new patients at the time. The receptionist was kind and explained that doctor Tang is taking in new patients and she recommended I give him a shot. I am very glad I did.The receptionists I have spoken to are all lovely, yes there is a wait time but they have a decent hold system and don’t ever take longer than 5ish minutes to pick up, if you’re calling during peak hours what do you expect? If it’s not an emergency it’s up to you to book your appointments well in advance. I won’t lie I’ve been guilty of leaving a prescription top up until the last moment but they always manage to get me in. They work with my pharmacy and have never mad e a mistake on my refills and when doctor Tang has been away the attending physician was great, she read my file before hand and was excellent and helpful.I have nothing but good things to say about my treatment here and would refer anyone to this clinic, as far as doctors offices go the wait is never terrible, the receptions are welcoming and will joke with me, the doctors are patient, they listen and let me air my thoughts or questions without ever steam rolling me or making me feel silly. All in all this is exactly what I was looking for in a family doctor, and I trust these people, what more could you ask for?

The Doctors at this office are good. In the 15 years of going here I have routinely felt like I was ruining the receptionists days by showing up for my appointment, and have never been welcomed with anything more than a glance up over the counter. The receptionist must feel that they work at the BCCDC, or are working for Dr. Bonnie Henry, as it seems they let the phones sit on hold for 15mins+. All in all, never a good experience.

I have just been on telephone hold" at this Clinic waiting to make an appointment to see in person my GP of nearly thirty years. Eventually I spoke to a receptionist who offered me only a telephone appointment in three weeks time !The service offered by Highroads is abysmal. I am married to a physician and know the burdens that are currently being imposed upon GPs. But one does get the impression that the Covid-19 pandemic is allowing physicians a "get out"

Edit to update my previous review: My wife has now been on hold on the phone waiting to talk to someone, anyone, at the clinic for over thirty-five minutes. Her call went straight to hold. She initiated the call between 11am and noon as their answering machine claims this is the best time to call because they have such a high volume" of calls. Yet every time I have been in the waiting room of this clinic

No place is perfect but this place does try its best. I have been a patient of Dr Bootsman for many years and have been blown away by the amazing and caring medical care I have received from her. Do you have to wait on hold to get someone? Well, yes, welcome to our strained medical system...just remember next time you go to vote to check which party is providing MORE money to our medical services. I have been incredibly happy with this clinic and am so very grateful I have a family doctor when there is such a shortage of them currently.

It was my first time trying to find a Family Doctor in Canada and I heard Highroads Medical Clinic on W Broadway was taking new patients. I saw Dr. Tang who is lovely. But it did take two appointments in order for me to register and then come back for an actual appointment to sort out my issues. So over 6 weeks (there was a 3 week wait time for booking each appointment) to be assessed for my problems. The nurse was absolutely horrible to deal with - she needs an attitude check. The receptionist was slightly better, but didn't appear to be very confident in what she was doing. It has now been 7 weeks and I still haven't heard back regarding my results (I was told to wait a month - so I will need to follow up with them). I gave 4 stars due to Dr. Tang. Otherwise based on my overall experience it would be much lower.

I have moved around a fair bit and it is safe to say that I have never had such professional and personalized care as I get from the team at Highroads. It can be hard to make it through the phone lines at times, but the staff are so helpful and hard-working that they always find a solution. Dr. Tang is above-and-beyond an excellent doctor. I have so much confidence in his skill and care, and I count myself lucky that we landed in his patient load.
