I was lucky enough to find Cam and Appenzell Construction through a referral when he was based out of Whistler. Cam was hired to build a custom overhang for my hot tub, mechanical room for pool equipment as well as forming for custom stone walls.Not only did Cam do the work wonderfully, on time and at a fair price (which is unheard of in Whistler) he went way above and beyond. I was having a pool constructed and the builder was terribly unorganized which created all kinds of problems getting trades to arrive at the designed time. Without being asked, Cam became my general contractor for the pool build on top of what he was hired for. He ensured that the trades did their jobs on time with a very tight time line. He basically took over the job of the pool builder and did not charge me extra for this critical work. As I live in Vancouver him being on site was critical. Truthfully, dealing with the pool builder and dealing with Muni took a year off my life and without Cam it would not have been completed.The work that Cam did on the hot tub overhang was exquisite. It was a complicated engineered job that required a lot of complicated on site cuts where any screw up would be there for all to see as they sat in the hot tub and looked up. He went above and beyond when he sourced the materials. Through his work and persistance he saved me about $5,000 on the custom glass. He was always on site when other trades were installing important parts of the job. When the plans changed on the mechanical room (which was almost daily) he dropped other things, came early or stayed late to get the changes done so the other trades and cement pouring could happen on schedule.I told Cam that contractors like him simply don't exist any more and if they did they certainly weren't in Whistler. Little did I know that he would soon be leaving Whistler for Revelstoke. I sorely miss him and have not found anyone like him since.It has been several years now and the work he did is as good as the day he did it. It has survived terribly harsh conditions with all the rain Whistler gets in the spring and fall and I have had zero issues.I wrote this review with pleasure because I was so happy with his work and I believe that anyone who uses him can consider themselves lucky to find such an honest and hardworking individual. Appenzell built our Step Code 5 home and really listened to our overall goals for what we wanted. Cam checked in on budget monthly, so there were no surprises. He let us tackle some of the things we wanted to do ourselves. His crew was friendly and hard working. The build was organized, and Cam kept us on time and on budget.

I hired Appenzell over two years ago for a renovation project in downtown Revelstoke and until today the thought of this company and its owner brings me feelings of frustration and anxiety. With time I will develop this review and use more words and details to describe my experience through facts, for now I will say that I would never work with this company again and company’s owner, Cameron, is the most unaccountable construction professional I ever worked with in any of the 5 considerable renovation projects this far in my life.In short, this company made an extensive damage in my foundation by working negligently, out of scope without authorization or proper technical supervision or knowhow; did the worst lap siding job I ever seen (these guys couldn’t get even painting boards right); bad craftsmanship in general with terrible framing abilities; didn’t respect scope or my decision capacity as a project owner, had several out of code issues and more. Project management was completely a joke with critical issues in the main facets of the project – scope, time, budget and quality. If communications was challenging even among Appenzell and their subcontractors, with me, although all my effort to have it clear and frequent, it was terrible!Interesting piece is that doing a quick search on google for contractors in Revelstoke it's indeed impressive the number of reviews this company has, and the curious detail of the kind of relationship some of the reviewers have with the company. I believe this, together with the fact that I was threatened to be sued for defamation when I started looking for secondo opinions on all the issues faced, helps clarify the style of company's owner Cameron.

As a certified electrical contractor, working with the crew at Appenzell Construction is excellent. Their site supervisors have great communication with sub trades and demand a quality product from all sub trades. We look forward to working with them in the future on any project, big or small and highly recommend them if you are looking for a builder.
