Hewitt's Dairy Bar

Hewitt's has been there, as long as i can remember. Had the strawberry milkshake, absolutely the best i have ever had. (farm fresh quality) They also have a diner that sells burgers poutine etc. Poutine was soso. Although a great stop. Took home a box of icecream, Salty Dawg.

If you're looking to come here for dinner they do close at 7pm but their dairy bar is open later. I got their cookie dough and chocolate peanut butter ice creams on a cone, with a cup on the side incase the cone melted. There were 3 girls working that night, the line went out the door so the service was a bit slow but the ice cream and milkshakes are worth the stop

I love this place. I have to drive 37 min to get there but once I take a sip of my milkshake I realize it worth it. You can order by phone to make it easier. A vanilla milkshake with malt is what I always order but maybe you are more adventurous than me, you are not going to pick wrong either way. Now they accept credit cards and have done in again!!Enjoy and left a generous tip!

Visited this place for a chocolate milkshake. Two things that happened which made me think that why did I even have to make a stop there.There was big line for the desserts. Until just before me they served the customers quick. When it was my turn, one short girl came from the food area, took my order which was a thick chocolate milkshake and left me there without taking care of my order. The people behind me had their orders being filled and were leaving while I was still standing there just for one milkshake. The other two girls that were serving other customers didn’t even bother to check my order.The second thing is the milkshake itself. The menu board just said vanilla, chocolate and strawberry shakes. I thought the chocolate would be purely chocolate milkshake and I ordered it ‘thick’ considering that it would be extra thick. But to my surprise they did like 85% vanilla +15% chocolate milkshake. When asked one of the girls said that’s how they do it. If that’s the case put it on the menu board about the combination. Why to even list it out as chocolate in the first place when you already have a separate vanilla item?It was an absolute waste of time and money adding to a total disappointment. Will not visit again.

It’s a very unassuming & unpretentious place. It is exactly what it looks like - an honest to goodness diner & ice cream parlour. The decor & countertop is straight out of the mid-20th century. It’s been here so long that it’s retro, once again.They carry a wide selection of milk - including goat’s milk, ice cream made on site, cheeses, etc.

I absolutely love this place, every time me and my family come down we always make a stop here. Friendly staff and very tasty. Yummy food, I love the portion sizes. Not too big and not too small, my favorite waitress there. Her name is Leah. She's very friendly and she has the same name as my daughter so she's pretty cool. Think, I'll be back very soon ❤️

Brutal Management - lack of hygiene and long wait timesWaited well over 30mins before leaving. I don’t fully blame the staff but lack of managerial oversight or leadership in the shop.Only two employees working the ice cream line despite the line being out the door. The other four staff were working the food and grill which had ZERO LINE. Not at one point did any level of management think about making staffing adjustments.I felt bad for the two people working the ice cream side. Swamped, no oversight and just trying to keep up.That being said, they were doing themselves any favours moving as slow as glaciers. To make it worse, I watched them serve 20+ clients without washing their hands or using a glove. I watched everything from touching product, not changing out scoops and pinching the register… flat out gross.Overall just not a very good experience.

I cannot believe this ice cream store in a rural road was so busy. Worth stopping by and get an ice cream or milk shake even if you count your calories. Reasonable price, variety of tastes

Wow now these are some large portions!!!! It is about $7 for 3 scoops and $5 for 2 I believe and an extra buck for the waffle cone but the portions were so massive I didn’t even pay attention because it was worth it haha, my friend even dropped his and they gave him all all new scoops (in a cup to be safe) haha. Everything was delicious, my fav was the cookies and cream. The cookie dough had a bit too many chocolate chips for me though! Would absolutely recommend, it is a cute little spot perfect for the trip home after being at Dover.

Always a great time at Hewitt's. Great variety of flavours and items; good, friendly customer service, and decent prices. I was surprised to hear that a big corporation like Gay Lea had bought them and there was still such a homey experience there. I guess I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Always a large in a cup for me there!
