Stones Boatyard & The Marine Store Chandlery

We've been here several times for everything from a short haul-out today with a quick pressure wash and zincs to having them replace navigation equipment and perform a full paint. It's not a 'bargain', but what is with boats? But the service has been great each time and the advice sound. Will continue to use them in the future for sure.

Stones did a good bottom paint job on my boat and had the starter rebuilt and reinstalled. The starter worked fine the day the boat was splashed, but began failing intermittently the following day on our northward cruise. By the time we got to the Discovery Islands we realized we’d better head back south before we got stranded. To make a long story short, we got to Comox. A mechanic and rebuild shop there confirmed the intermittent failure issue and informed me the starter is shot. After the the cost of labor and a brand new starter in Comox Stones refused to accept any responsibility for their installation of a faulty rebuild. They claim the rebuild is fine and there is some other problem with our starting system. This does not explain our experience of first time every time performance of the new starter installed in Comox. In short, they boast of their great warrantee, but their willingness to stand behind it is disappointing.

Hats off to Rob and his team. I required a pre-purchase inspection at the busiest time of the year and they came through for me. Rob gave me valuable advise and was prompt on following up on my emails. Highly recommend!

I tried to get an inflatable repaired at Stones Boatyard. There are limited options on Vancouver Island and this company knows it and is why they (apparently) feel they do not need to provide good customer service. I called Stone's to inquire about the repair. When I asked about the costs to repair, the lady (in the repair shop) did not provide me with all the information. I asked SPECIFICALLY if there would be any additional costs and she explained the repair would be the cost of the repair labour and supplies/parts only, no additional or hidden costs (and she made it clear they don't work that way). She completely failed to inform me there was an additional cost just to do the quote. It wasn't until I asked about the high cost of the repair (once I finally got the quote which they had completely forgotten to do until I called and then within minutes, I got a quote for $130). It wasn't until I finally came by in person to discuss the repair and costs that she rudely explained that one of the reasons they charge for the quotes is because they guarantee the work on all seams not just the one they are repairing (she never even mentioned they guarantee any part of their work). Had she kindly and politely explained all of it to me up front and been transparent about all the costs, I would have gone ahead with the work, especially after finding out they guarantee all the seams. In the end, she was very rude and wouldn't take the boat for repair (I wasn't a good fit because I asked questions and required some clarification). She made it very clear my money was no good and the whole thing was just a nuisance for them. Clearly they don't like the smaller jobs or people who as questions. They seem to forget that clients with small jobs can also have big jobs. One should never judge a book by its cover. Just because you don't like a question or don't feel like clarifying something about a repair is not a reason to treat a customer unkindly and unprofessionally. I would highly recommend taking your inflatable to Airborne Inflatables in Sidney. Much nicer to deal with and they are totally up front about the costs and any other information that you inquire about. They don't seem like they are too good" for your business. Extremely satisfied with the services. Did many boatyards on Vancouver island and this is definitely my new go to place. Rob and his army of professionals were genuinely the difference. Good to see that customer services is still a thing nowadays. See you next time.

Top Drawer Team at Stones Marina and Boatyard. Nick and his crew are amazing! High quality service delivery from the boatyard guys, the chandler team and management.I had an issue with my shaft seal and Nick went over and above Customer Excellence and repaired our boat, along with some general maintenance, ahead of schedule. Very well managed facility.They have hauled out, cleaned and painted the bottom of my sailboat for 10 years. Professional and helpful staff in both their boatyard and marine store. Nice people to work with.Nick runs a very busy boatyard but it always seems clean and well organized. They have some well trained boat lift operators and Rob adds a glassy shine to my boat like no other.....Stones also seem to be able to access a very good network of specialized repair technicians when I needed one.I have also noticed they work hard to contain and handle waste in a responsible manner - good work.Highly recommended.

Once again Stones delivered a great result. Rob and his crews did an absolutely incredible job of, cleaning/painting/polishing the hull and the biggest job of all, installing a new windlass on our 39 year old boat. Rob’s advice was invaluable. The result is that the new windlass looks like it was there all along and functions beautifully. Everything was carefully thought through and installed as though it was their own boat. All sensible and great attention to detail. Rob really went the extra mile to deliver on all of our requests. Great job! Thank you Rob. Thank you Stones.
