Black River Retreat

Can't speak highly enough about our time at Black River Retreat. Trevor, thank you for your incredible graciousness, hospitality and service throughout our stay. Not one detail was overlooked, from the beautifully lit grounds on the river, fire pits (& smores), hot tub, ultra cozy interior, saloon with games, whisky bar, cigars, darts, movies, 3 course meals..I could go on. Tweed's hidden gem. Already dreaming of our next visit!

Where to begin..?Everything was perfect. Every single detail was very well done. Great service, great food, romantic and very relaxing. I have no complaints other then I didn’t want to leave. We can’t wait to go back. It’s what we needed to spend that time with each other with no interruptions. Thank you Trevor for the wonderful experience!

Thank you Trevor for creating the Black River Retreat. We have made some great memories during our stay. Whether it has been playing darts or Yahtzee in the games area to relaxing around the outdoor fire pit, to the hot tub and of course the lock of love. Once upon a time there was a man who used to build houses for others, but one day he decided to venture into the forest because he was tired of the city. He walked and walked until around him there was nothing but a beautiful and thick forest surrounded by a magical black river. This river hid a great mystery because its route was guided by a large black slab dotted with quartz. He knew that this was the place and began to build his dream. Each piece of wood was cut in detail and he built a magical cabin, full of magical details that revealed the essence of the spirit of that good man. Little by little that place began to be visited by fairies and gnomes who, delighted with its beauty, dedicated themselves to attracting princes and princesses with the aim of sealing their eternal love under the powerful energy that emanated from that black river.Thus the place was visited by hundreds of princes with their precious ones who were attended personally by that good man. Its delicious dishes enchanted the palate of its visitors and the starry nights in front of the fire sealed the love of their hearts. Trevor is his name and I have heard that he still lives in that enchanted forest and that he continues to serve his visitors with the same love, because he found his happiness when he helped others to seal their love next to the waters of that black river. Gossips say that part of the charm lies in the delicious desserts that Trevor's mother usually prepares and it is said that she sends them to the place by means of fairies. Whoever tries one of those desserts will sweeten their feelings forever and their love will last beyond eternity!

All I can say, is just wow! This is been our fourth year at the same time and oh my goodness it was like our first all over again. The food was impeccable the host is unbelievable.! We love the outside, just as much as the inside. The bunkhouse at the water with a fire in front of it was absolutely magical. We will see you next year Trevor! Love this place.

Possibly the most underestimated experience in Ontario, let alone Canada. Been all over the world hunting for unique boutique guest experiences, and this is easily in the top 5. Trevor does an impeccable job curating the entire experience. His detail and focus on service is unmatched. Well done!!

This is one of those places that you're not sure whether to keep it a hidden gem or tell the world about it because it's so great. From the moment Trevor welcomed us and showed us around the property, we felt at home. We had everything we possibly needed, and the attention to detail was so thoughtful and appreciated. Even though it rained for much of our 2-night stay, we had the most amazing time. Whether we were curled up in the riverfront cabana listening to the rain falling in the river, walking through the winding forest path on soft mossy ground, or making use of the hot tub or fire pits, there was always something to explore and many unique spaces to relax. And the food was just amazing...so creative, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully executed. We had the Cornish game hen one night and the cedar-planked salmon the second night. Incredible. Trevor was a wonderful host and made us feel pampered with the delicious meals, while giving us total privacy to enjoy the property. It was so nice to disconnect from the rest of the world and just spend time together. Thank you for a well-needed retreat. It was a truly enchanted experience (if you're a Swiftie, this place has the whimsy of Speak Now with the sophistication of folklore!). We are already planning our next visit- can't wait to return!!
