Burrard Animal Hospital + Emergency
Three weeks ago, we brought our baby girl Harley here for emergency. Unfortunately, within a day we had to make the hardest decision… I just want to say thank you to all the staff and the doctors. We appreciate your patience and the time and space you allowed us to have during Harley’s final hours, it meant so much to us. We felt that even though the clinic was quite busy, they were very understanding, considerate and kind. They explained and approached every subject in detail yet in a every sensible and kind way. They gave us the room and as much time as we needed to say goodbye. Even in the end, when the doctor took her away, just they way he held her, I could see the compassion and care.Initially I was only intending to write a thank you note, then I saw some negative reviews saying that they think this clinic only cares about $$. I can say thats 100% NOT our experience! The initial checkup was $100 under a urgent circumstance, which they accommodated us with a phone call in an hour. We had to give Harley IV and leave her overnight for observation. The treatment plan was broken down to items when explained to us. Then after we left for about an hour, the doctor called and informed us his further exam and the discovery of a tumour. Though it seems like a tell tale, he asked for permission to do X-ray, then promptly gave us the best diagnose he could. Because we wanted to be more sure of if it was cancerous, he then recommended blood work and also ask for permission. All the costs were explained upfront each time. Though exams are never cheap, but they weren’t unreasonable. In the end, they didn’t charge us anything some of the items that were quoted in the initial treatment plan because they didn’t happen. I feel that the are honest and kind, our experience is definitely positive. We even got a condolence card from them with all staff’s signatures last week. They are not even Harley’s regular vet. So I think this just shows how much they care…Anyway, thank you all again. I’m sure Harley also appreciate your care and love for her.

The Irish woman at the front desk is awful.I called and told her that my 60lb dog ate TWO grapes 15 mins ago. She told me it’s very important that I come in- I explained that I am a single caregiver who does not drive and it’s 1130pm. For me to come in I will have to get a taxi, bring my sleeping 3 year old and a large dog.I asked if it’s vital that I come in, or can I monitor my dog myself or do something to help her throw up at home. She said “I wouldn’t tell you to come in if your dog didn’t have to”In a panic, I came in trusting this woman. Only to pay $450- then receive a text back from my friend who is a vet assistant saying that a dog my pets size would have to eat 30+ grapes for it to be toxic. This woman lied to me and put pressure on me to come in for no reason.AppallingThe other young girl who was working was just as rude, when I was asking for the break down of the bill-I would rate this zero stars if I could, considering the lacked empathy and professionalism

We have taken all three of our guinea pigs here in emergency/urgent situations. The staff are kind and responsive on the phone/in-person. The facility is safe, clean and welcoming. The vets are thorough and take time to answer your questions. Would highly recommend, it is awesome to have an urgent care centre so close to where we live in Fairview.

Trustworthy vets. I highly recommend Dr. Nair. It's hard to find a vet with empathy, genuine concern, and kindness. Dr. Nair made my pup feel comfortable and his explanations were thorough. We had our pets come in for emergency for a few times and I always felt comfortable and at ease with my dogs in their hands. On top of that their examination rooms are clean. I have had a horrible experience with another vet and am so relieved to have my pets transferred here.

I understand there is a shortage of small animal experience in the city. My review is not about the vet who helped my dear one. Thank you kindly for taking care of her.Instead it is about the assistant tech that clearly looked uncomfortable picking up my girl, and who did not have a firm grip or support her feet. Once allowing her to jump away off the exam table and hurting herself while she was already in pain. I realize animals are unpredictable, but the picking up technique felt wrong from my experiences at other places. I am in no way blaming my pet's death on this, however I can't help but wonder as I grieve, if she would have been less panicked if better handled.

BLACKLISTED! BANNED! BE GOOD TO YOUR PET, DON'T TRY TO COME!(UPDATE ON MAY 26. REPLY TO DENA'S REPLY)1. Please DON'T LIE. I was the person who made the appointment on the phone with your colleague. NO, she did not inform me about the wait time. If she did, I would have already go to another hospital.Just look at all the negative reviews you received. Many complained about the wait time. What's the point of having an appointment if you can't keep it. This is obviously a long-term problem and the management is neglecting the problem.2. If you position yourself as an emergency hospital, don't take any appointment unless you have at least one or more vet on duty. Just because you guys want to make more money out of everyone? As said before, there is always emergency, and what happens if two or even more emergencies all happen at once???!3. We go to hospital because we are no expert. That's why we make efforts to come and ask for professional help. As dog owners, we know dogs' condition can deteriorate fast. If you guys are not providing proper care promptly, you guys do not deserve to be a hospital.4. The fact is that the nurse, in the room, told me the vet was writing some notes before the dog which was hit by the car came in . And I believe a dog's health is certainly has the priority over some notes. If my dog got proper treatment and took her meds she needed last night, her condition might not deteriorate.***********We had previously suspended visiting this place for almost a year due to our past experiences. However, our dog fell ill this time and we couldn't secure an immediate appointment elsewhere. Reluctantly, we decided to schedule another appointment with them.Based on our previous encounters, it is evident that their primary concern is their own interests, particularly money. They have only one vet on duty at a time, which means that if your pet has an emergency while the vet is attending to another urgent case, your pet will not receive immediate treatment.I understand that emergencies require prompt attention, but the way they handle things is nonsensical. If they were unable to accommodate our appointment, they should have at least declined, allowing us to seek an alternative. We even cancelled our appointment at another hospital for this! I blame myself and feel terribly sorry for my suffering dog, as she did not receive the timely and proper treatment she needed.Without immediate treatmebt, she got worse at home!If I had the option, I would give this place zero stars!!!!!!

I came in with my hamster today. She was having trouble balancing. I had an appointment with capital hill animal hospital for tomorrow which specializes in hamsters. Her symptoms got worse so I decided to bring her in here today. I had gone to this clinic before to see Dr. Stewart for my hamster with some breathing problems that she solved with antibiotics. This time we saw Dr. B___.Before Dr. B___ came into the room to see Pearly, I explained to the Nurse my hamster's symptoms leading up to today and she typed everything I said into the computer for Dr. B___ to read. When Dr. B___ came into the room, he addressed my female hamster as a male. He saw that she was having some breathing problems. Attempted to grab her and got bit. He then tried again with a glove. He grabbed her head so she couldn't move with the hand with the glove and used the other to feel for anything abnormal in her stomach. My hamster was screeching in pain when he did this. As soon as he let her down, she was in labored breathing/dead/toppled over and didn't move.I understand Dr. B___ was doing his job. I am writing this more so as a warning to other hamster owners. Yes indeed my hamster was suffering but I feel as if I should have instead brought her to Capital hill animal hospital to reduce the chances of my hamster dying in such a stressful situation.

We had 2 emergency experiences with 2 different cats and had a very good treatment from staff, vet, and communication. First time was to get a second opinion on operating on an old cat. They gave us a very pragmatic diagnosis and delivered it with such compassion but validated our choice to not operate on her and to finally let her go. We were grateful for that.Second ER visit, our young cat had a very bad fall off 4 storeys balcony. We called ahead of time and told them what happened and the eta of our arrival. They took him in immediately. The support staff and vet assistants were very compassionate during the wait for the diagnosis. The price and deposit was standard, compared to other pet emergencies in the area. By the time we were able to pick up our cat to take by home the next day, they actually refunded some of our deposit back because they found they didn't need to administer some of the usual procedures because our cat recovered so well. It's been few months since tha accident and he's 100% better now. Going to Burrard Pet Hospital really put our minds at ease despite the circumstances.

Never thought I'd write this, but I feel like I've been scammed and misled. This place managed to prey on naive and anxious first time pet owners to escalate what was essentially diarrhea into a full blown potential invasive surgey or endonoscopy for our sweet kitty. We had to pay $2300 for what was a 12 hour overnight to morning stay for all sorts of checks, IVs and other work. We initially suspected our kitty had an upset tummy, or poisoned from something like salt/deicer. She was throwing up but otherwise keeping liquids in.We also thought maybe a bit of foam lodged, because of the fact she threw bits of it days before. Yet they charged $600+ for radiology x-rays to look for FOAM?!!Make that make sense please ? We didn't agree to that, if anything an ultrasound would have been the better tool? Poor judgement and duty of care to suggest and conduct unnecessary work.It looked like random unnecessary techs/jobs had been added onto the billing list to buff up as many charges as they can. I want this invoice to be revised. It's unjust and I can't believe it, the other reviews are saying the same, make a decision for yourself if you think to take your beloved pet here. This business is literally next door to my home and 24 hrs and I will never think to bring my cat here again, even if she wasn't breathing. This vet hospital seems to be for-profit, like it's run by cowboys that moonlight as vets by night. Confusing, weird medical jargon said to trick and worry you in to saying yes.Lots of prodding and probing for no reason other than to upcharge and boost their profits from each visit. You know who I am, please reach out to rectify this. I'm going to see if I can speak to my credit card company- seemingly a scummy practice.Strange to have a CPR/resuscitation policy thrust on you at the end to give you that extra worry...
