Top Drawer Finishing Inc
We found the owner of Top Drawer Finishing to be rude, arrogant, and totally incompetent. We were charged $75 per hour by Top Drawer to prepare an estimate for them to repair furniture that was damaged during a recent move. The owner stated that if he was awarded the contract to repair the furniture that the $252 he charged for the estimate would be taken off of the repair bill. This is actually standard practice in the industry. We paid the owner for his estimate and then told him that he could do the repair work, assuming that it would be deducted from his final bill as promised. Later the owner found out that the other company that bid on the repair job (who only charged $50 per hour for their estimate) had submitted a much higher estimate than his. This company did a much more thorough inspection and it was obvious that they were a lot more competent. The owner of Top Drawer then wanted to charge us another $75 per hour to put in another estimate. We told him that we did not think that was fair as we had already paid him for his estimate but that if he wanted to he could resubmit his estimate on the basis of his original inspection or could come on his own time to re-examine the furniture. The owner then simply told us that he did not want to do the work anymore but that he would not reimburse us the $252. What makes it even worse is that while carrying out the inspection the owner actually caused additional damage to the furniture which we then had to pay the other company to repair.
