The Needle & Studio

The lady was extremely rude to me and my friend. My friend wanted an alteration and the lady said it will take a month. My friend understood and we were just admiring the decor of the store when she said ‘out now’. I replied saying why’re you so rude and she was like ‘I’m working’. She sits behind the counter and we were on the other side of the store quietly admiring the stores she had so there was no way she couldn’t work with us being there. Her behaviour is really poor and I would not recommend anyone to go to her. Many better places in Yorkdale mall and Eaton Center than to deal with a mannerless lady who doesn’t appreciate customers.

I needed jeans hemmed. I clearly didn’t know the appropriate length and requested something too short. When I tried them on at pickup and they were too short. The tailor who I dropped them off with asked me how the fit was and I said they were too short. She told me “I told you so.”She could have explained why the length I was considering was clearly a mistake. She could have offered to do a sample fitting. She could have offered to correct the length after the alteration was made.Instead she rubbed my face in a mistake any inexperienced person could have made.

UPDATE: This is a response to the owner's reply to my review. It's truly unfortunate that you had the time to write a lengthy response on Google. However my three calls were unanswered and the message I left did not result in a call back. I called and left the message an hour before posting my review.Although, there was little room for doubt that the way I was treated was simply racist, I wanted to have opportunity to speak to the owner - as I recognized the business was owned by a woman of color like me.But, clearly your only concern is the negative impact of my Google review and nor having an honest conversation with me. Your supposed store policy of asking customers with used or vintage" clothing to pay upfront is nonsensical

I just love this studio and the owner/tailor. She is a true artist. I initially came here to fix a sweater that was botched by a less qualified tailor. She managed to fix the sweater no problem, and I’ve been visiting here ever since. She has done incredible work altering the waistband of my jeans, slimming an oversized vintage silk dress, on and on. No project feels too daunting. Her craftsmanship is superb. I feel so happy to have her in my Toronto network!

The owner is really nice and professional. I brought in 4 pairs of pants for length alternations and 1 pair of pants for sewing a hole. When I went there, she let me try on the pants and gave me advice about the alternations. I am very happy with the outcome of the alternations and fixing. Definitely will come back for future alternations!

Very happy with the vintage wool coat that I had shortened here! It was very neatly hemmed, with a quick turnaround time, and lovely service. Planning on bringing back anything else I may need tailored, and telling my friends to do so as well! Thank you again Needle & Studio :)

Let me start this review by saying that I've been to this store many, many times. The owner has done such a great job with alterations on my multiple blazers, I ended up bringing more and more, even the ones that I contemplated on getting fixed (i.e. off-the-rack winter jacket with way too long sleeves for me). This is definitely a place to go if you are looking for a great tailor!

Did a great job with my suit and it came out almost exactly like I asked. I would 100% go back.Unfortunately was unable to fix an issue caused by another tailor with the way the vent hangs, so 4 stars instead of 5. But to reiterate, the fit is excellent and the service was friendly.

I recently brought in two tops for alterations and they both turned out wonderfully! I was a little nervous about one because it was a handmade corset-style top made from recycled tapestry, which I thought would be tricky to alter. But it turned out better than I could have imagined and fits like a glove! Very reasonable price and a quick turnover. I will definitely return for future alterations!

Had a suit, dress, and jeans taken in a few sizes. The alterations were substantial, so the price was very reasonable considering this.The owner was super knowledgeable about what alterations had to be made to achieve the look I wanted, and I'm very grateful for that.
