I am outraged to write this post.On Monday, March 29th I was discriminated against because of my ethnicity. It is not apparent by my appearance that I am a Registered Status Indian of Canada, and often people are surprised to hear that I am.In January of this year I visited @1 Stop Kitchen & Countertops, a locally owned business, to shop for quartz for a kitchen renovation. From January to March I corresponded by email with 1 Stop Kitchen requesting quotes on different styles and brands. In each quote the conditions stated a required 50% deposit upon templating, with the remaining balance to be paid within 30 days of the original invoice date.On Friday, March 26th I agreed to proceed with the countertops. I asked to use my Status Card for tax exemption purposes. On Monday morning, March 29th, the owner (a man) called me to ask if I was in fact Native and if I had a status card and number with my name on it. I said yes and explained how the process works in case he was unaware and provided examples as I have done this without issue with other stores in Fredericton. He said he didn’t like dealing with people on reserve because he’d allegedly “been stung in the past” and wouldn’t be honouring the 30-day grace period anymore because of my First Nation Status. Let me be crystal clear here, he wouldn’t be honouring the 30-day grace period anymore because I wanted to use my Status Card which is my lawful right, and which has no financial effect on his business.I told him he couldn’t categorize me as someone who doesn’t pay because I am a Status Indian. He said he couldn’t take the risk of getting ripped off again. To create a store policy for one ethnicity and a different policy for another ethnicity is the prime example of systemic discrimination that is front-and-center in numerous movements to squash such discrimination within society. And I am not naive, this incident is clearly not the first and I am sure a store with a policy like this has discriminated against many others like me, but this was something that I could not let go and hurt me, angered me, enraged me to my very core. In short, on Friday I was a credible white woman with an honourable 30-day grace period which 1 Stop Kitchen was thrilled to have my business, by Monday I was a high-risk Aboriginal and the conditions of the agreement changed.Since that date I opened a file with the Human Rights Commission’s office of New Brunswick against 1Stop Kitchen for Discrimination towards an Indigenous Person, and likely on behalf of others who never came forward. No matter how big or small, this is a prime example of systemic discrimination against Aboriginal People in Canada, in New Brunswick, and sadly right here in my community.I won’t be discriminated against. I worked too hard to get where I am today to be mistreated and discriminated against. I work in Human Resources, a field that protects people from discrimination, inequality and injustice. I’m an active volunteer who advocates for Aboriginal Awareness at my company of 14,000 people enterprise wide in an effort to make change. I don’t condone this towards others, and I don’t tolerate it towards me personally. You can discriminate, but no longer is it going to be tolerated, accepted, or go without consequences.

Highly recommend! Had difficulty finding someone to build a custom sized square countertop for a reasonable price, Donnie & Marilu were AWESOME. Knew exactly what I was after, were extremely helpful, AND did it for the best price!Will definitely be coming back here to do the rest of our countertops!

Completely happy with the cabinetry and quartz counter tops installed by 1Stop. From the plans drawn up by Ethan to the installation by Donnie, everything went so smoothly, on time and with no cost over-runs. I recommend this business to anyone.

We had our old kitchen torn out and a complete new kitchen installed by 1 Stop Kitchens and we are very pleased. Donnie called us often to let us know when to expect work to be done and everything arrived and was installed right on time. We are very pleased with our new kitchen and also with the new bathroom vanity which was done as well. We would definitely recommend Donnie Hynes and his company.

These guys did a great job, managed to squeeze me in to accommodate the deadline to list the house. MaryLou was very helpful as it had been 20 years since I picked out countertop and she explained the differences in the products that they carried and gave me a ball park estimate to work with. The installer came to the house and did the final measurements to order the countertop, he was very professional and polite. On install day he came and started the job and let us know that someone else was going to finish it as he had to leave for a couple of hours. Both installers were friendly and professional., and did an excellent job. I would highly recommend this company. Oh and the price was reasonable :)

Working with Donnie was such a positive experience! he took time to help us design our new kitchen within budget while ensuring the look and functionality we wanted. Seamless and enjoyable process, we are thrilled with our kitchen . The quality is outstanding! Thank you one stop!
