We had MaKenady Construction renovate the main floor of our home by removing a load bearing wall and replacing it with a recessed beam.To accomplish this, they had to reroute HVAC supply and cold air return lines, plumbing water supply lines, plumbing drain lines and vents and of course electrical. They needed to access our finished basement ceiling cavities in order to reroute HVAC.All of this was done to accommodate our new kitchen, remodeled main floor bathroom and new, larger foyer closet.Scott and his team were on the job 5 days a week and 8 hours a day until the job was complete and we were 100% satisfied.They were on budget and on time with the reno.They worked with us from the start to design and implement ideas and were very accommodating and understanding to changes we needed to make in the design along the way.The result was a beautifully finished main floor, a basement that was left looking as good or better than before they arrived and a surprisingly stress free and smooth process from beginning to end which took less than 3 months.I would not hesitate to recommend Scott and MaKenady Construction Services to anyone and am proud to show off their work to all of my family and friends.Thanks again to Scott, Brendan and Brian for doing exactly what they promised, as promised with expert craftsmanship.

Scott and MaKenady Construction gave us the renovation experience of our dreams. He came to us through a referral, and I would refer him to anyone else in a heartbeat (and have just reached out to him to do some more work - this time in our kitchen). We did a significant basement renovation that included: a full bathroom, a kitchenette, a legal bedroom, a hidden playroom behind a custom swinging bookcase, a reading nook under the stairs, and a gas fireplace with custom shelving, as well as replacing and moving our furnace and hot water tank. Scott brought everything a great contractor should: he cared about our money as much (if not more) than we did; he kept his promises, showing up every day along with his crew; he has decades of experience and has a keen eye for detail; he has an amazing network of tradespeople who were all friendly, knowledgeable and did impeccable work; and he helped us navigate the difficult decisions in a way that allowed us to make the most of our money, without making us do it his way - ensuring we ended up with something that we are very excited about and works for our family.

Scott is our go-to trusted contractor! We first used his company 6 years ago to expand our kitchen by removing a support wall. He coordinated with the engineer and town for permits, taking a lot of stress off of us. As with all large projects, we encountered unexpected challenges but Scott is always quick to find a solution and instill confidence, and he helped us achieve the kitchen we'd been dreaming of. Scott has proven to be honest, trustworthy, and caring. We had him back again this year to fully upgrade our master bathroom and we couldn't be happier with the outcome! I've used this company for a major project for a multi-million dollar facility auto garage/dealership in Whitby, ON. They were very friendly and knowledgeable and took the time to walk me through the process and assist me throughout the process because I was not knowledgeable on something of this magnitude. Scott Guillot is very knowledgeable with commercial construction. And he made good choices in his sub trades for instance electrical, plumbing, and other trades. I am very happy with my building. I now have one of the best facilities in automotive and the best location in Durham Region, all with the help of Scott Guillot and MaKenady Construction. I would recommend this company to anyone that is looking to do commercial construction or residential because they are a trusted builder. The construction was done within the timeframe that was originally scheduled.

Customer Review:MaKenady Construction ServicesProject: Load bearing wall removal, between kitchen and living roomDiscussion: MaKenady Construction Services were the successful contractor engaged for the project which entailed more than the simple statement above.Full coordination was required between the structural engineer, the building inspector, the construction team of Brian, Spencer & Brendon as well as Paul & Dylan of the electrical crew.The project required to have a small part of the basement floor opened up and dug out for rebar installation creating a thicker concrete pad & the construction of a short 2 x 6 wall which would form a distributed base for the point load that would be incurred from the removal of the load bearing wall on the main floor. A new LVL was installed on the main floor. Complicating the project somewhat was a heating pipe that needed to be relocated as did some plumbing and electrical. These appeared to be minor inconveniences and were cheerfully resolved.In the kitchen new switches, receptacles and lighting were installed. Under counter lighting will also be installed once the new kitchen arrives and is installed.I previously noted several individuals from the MaKenady Team – let me say – this group are real professionals with Brian leading the construction charge. As a side note, Brian is also a Brian Baeulmer Approved Contractor! That quickly illustrates the quality of the associates that MaKenady Construction and CEO, Scott Guillot work with!I would also like to say that MaKenady Construction Services might not have been the cheapest nor were they the most expensive. What impressed me was their upfront approach and can-do attitude. I knew they were busy however they did manage to fit me in.Not only did Scott act as the Project Manager, he was on site for a few hours virtually everyday and often rolled up his sleeves to pitch in.MaKenady is a member of the Durham Construction Association which is where I found them.I will have more work coming up in the coming months and will gladly employ this company once again and highly recommend them for any residential renovation one might have.

Scott and his crew recently put in a downstairs bathroom, flooring in two bedrooms and hung a door for us. He is always helpful, punctual and willing to fix anything that may not be working correctly or to our liking. I would highly recommend Scott and his company for any work that you may need done at home.

I may not have known it at the time, but when I first contacted Scott Guillot from MaKenady Construction Services Inc., this turned out to be a great phone call. I had a house fire that completely gutted my home with a legal basement apartment. For 2 years, the contractor that the insurance company hired left me hanging with a shingled roof that leaked, windows that where installed crooked and several failed inspections. Finally after 2 years, the insurance company allowed me to find my own general contractor, because nothing was getting done or was done wrong. Did I mention that I am also a senior citizen. After meeting Scott and his construction crew, he was quick to provide an estimate and promised that the work would get done and I could move back in 4 months. After everything I went through with the last contractor, I was very hesitant in trusting another contractor. Scott told me that MaKenady Construction Services Inc. was named after his daughter Makena and his son Kenady and that these names stood for commitment and reliability. Well Scott and his crew proved themselves right. Another good thing was that I never had to talk to anybody else about my home. If I had any problems or concerns, I would talk to Scott and he would take care of the problem. They completed the insulation, the drywall, the kitchens, the bathrooms, the heating, the air conditioner, the electrical, the stairs, etc. They took care of re-engaging with the city inspectors as they also had a negative experience with the other contractor. I wish I would have known about Scott before the house fire, because then I would have known that I had nothing to worry about and that I would be back home soon enough.

Scott and his entire team were amazing to work with from the very early stages of design, material selection to incredible attention to detail on the finishes.Living in a historic district required additional approvals. Scott and his entire team collaborated with the Town of Whitby and Heritage Planning to navigate design and material considerations.While in the construction and build phase there was constant and open communication on progress, challenges or decisions that required our attention. The level of transparency and engagement was incredible and we were kept well informed.The design and construction incorporated many custom elements such as french quarter natural gas lanterns, hand spun spindles & balusters and mix of natural and engineered materials. The level of craftsmanship was impressive and the attention to detail on the finishes make a lasting impression.The team was always very mindful of the job site and were diligent to leave the site clean each day.We couldn’t be happier with the entire Makenady team. Our wrap around porch compliments and enhances the historic neighbour and will be a centrepiece of the home for years to come.We liked their work so much we have already booked them for our basement renovation!

We have had Scott Guillot come in several times to do renovations on our home from putting down wood flooring to fixing our ceiling in the kitchen.
