The BCTF assigned me a rehab worker from this organization in early December 2015. I was recovering from a tonic clonic seizure and adjusting to living with epilepsy. My experience working with the person assigned to me was absolutely terrible and I would advise any teacher who is assigned a rehab worker from this organization to ask the BCTF for someone from a different organization. I would also advise anyone considering using their own money to purchase services from this organization to be extremely careful.The FactsA worker was assigned to me in December 2015. I am slated to return to work on February 2 and have yet to meet this worker. This worker referred me for a psychological needs assessment and the results have not yet been received. I dealt directly with school district administration in planning my return to work. When asked via email if “I am own my own in planning my return to work?” the reply was “My role is to advise as to limitations”. I have no written return to work plan and only verbal promises from administration that accommodations will be made.My Interpretation/OpinionFor some reason my concerns were not real to this worker. I pleaded for help via email on January 27, 2016 at 10:30 PM (“I am feeling sick over this. It is causing me a lot of stress and I really feel like I need help solving this problem”) and my worker did not respond to my email. This theme of client negligence is supplemented by a braggadocios attitude that should be ignored. (When I expressed concerns about how my being off work may affect my future employment options, my worker replied: “do you know anything about me?” As if she had some influence upon school district HR policies).After my psych assessment the psychologist contacted me to discuss my return to work plan and expressed some concern with said plan. My worker has not even asked me about visiting the psychologist. To reiterate I am scheduled to return to work before my results have been produced.I am not sure how the process of returning to work usually occurs, but I do not believe my experience is representative of how things should be done. When planning my return to work I had to speak directly with my administrator. From these discussions came a plan that I had/have some serious concerns about. Later the next day I received a conference call from my worker and union president. During this call I was told how great the plan was. No questions were asked about why I had concerns. I felt bullied and voiceless.SummaryHere is what you can expect if you are assigned the same worker as me:• Hefty promises• No actual meeting between you and the worker• No chance to express your concerns and/or your concerns not being taken seriously• Being forced to accept a return to work plan that does not consider your concerns and/or not even being asked about your concerns.• A feeling of being bullied.If you have read this far consider yourself warned.
