Society For Treatment Of Autism
The workers are great with the residents. Management however, will throw your loved one to the curb in a heartbeat with only hours notice and nowhere to go. All it takes is a slight change in behaviour... and instead of showing dedication, and fighting for the best support for their residents, they just give up on them, and kick them out with no hesitation. I know of atleast 2 children they’ve kicked out due to “a change in behaviour”. One of those children being my own. I got a call one morning just before lunch time, and they told me he had until 3:30 that same day to get out of the house.. with no available placement in the province. If a change of behaviour is an unmanageable problem for an agency dealing with children/adults living with Autism, then they obviously are in the wrong field of work. People change... special needs or not. You learn to adapt, and find new ways to support your residents when they are in crisis, NOT turn your backs on them after years of care, and throw them out on the street with no resources for the families. If you’re thinking of sending a loved one to this agency, I would recommend looking into Breton Ability instead. This agency should be shut down. A damn disgrace they are
