I needed some tough thread to fix a leather seat... I brought in what I needed to fix, and the right thread was quick at hand, as the shop owner dealt with me right away. No worries that it was a small sale. She was helpful and the suggestion was successful. It's probably pretty rare to find such a specialty shop, but this was just in my neighbourhood, and appears to have been there for a long time. For a good reason.

As some other reviews mentioned, this shop over priced their fabrics. I noticed that quickly because they sell Liberty Tana Lawn, which can be identified easily. Basically, they double the usual retail price. I suspect it's because they offer designer discount to regular customers.

Like another reviewer, I was shocked at the prices. I'm not really sure who buys cotton fabric at $100/metre. I can appreciate high end fabric, but this didn't seem much different than what you can get at other fabric stores.

Wonderful little fabric shop uptown .As others have said it is more on the expensive side but the owner is extremely helpful when it came to questions about fabrics and sewing. As someone who is getting into making their own clothes from natural fibers I'm grateful to have someplace that sources good quality fabric. Lots of other fabric store can be inundated with synthetic fabrics from overseas. The store is well displayed and easily navigated if you have a mobility aid. I look forward to future visits!!

Very rude staff. I was considering spending several hundred dollars at their store until they put a clearance item back on regular price. I didn’t buy it the day I saw it because I needed to go home and see if it would match my wardrobe. I called back later to come get it and the lady said I could. Until I got exposed to Covid and decided not to go back until a week later and she puts it back to regular price. I asked her if she could honour the discount I originally saw as I am planning to buy the entire roll. She said no but also went on about how I didn’t buy it the day I saw it and didn’t come back the next day. I gave her and explanation but she seemed very resentful that I did not buy it the same day. Also, I should note that I am visibly Muslim and the second day I went back she did not even greet me. She did not greet me the first day either. But the second day she had spent a long time talking to another client who doesn’t look anything like me and still never said hi to me when that customer had left. She seems exceptionally rude to me compared to her other clients. I am curious if some discrimination is involved based on how I dress/look. So eventually I called back and asked her if I considered buying other fabrics at her store would she consider then offering the discount I originally saw. She immediately cut me off and said “no, it is what it is”. She again repeated how I did not buy it the first day and didn’t come back the second day despite me having an explanation. How petty does a person want to be? I told her I was disappointed because I was hoping to build a long term relationship with the store as I buy fabrics often for my wardrobe and initially liked the selection. She said sure, you can come see our other fabrics. I told her I don’t think I would ever shop there again after this type of service. I told her if she was willing to give the original discount I would buy more from her. She said no that it was a one day sale. How was I supposed to know at that time it was a one day sale? Again, I do suspect there may some discrimination and if not that, then definitely a lot a pettiness. Not the type of people/service I want to shop from where I feel I am treated differently that everyone else not chastised for not buying something the day I saw it.

I can appreciate high-end fabrics such as hand-beaded and European laces and silks, and understand that these often run at up to $600 a metre (and sometimes more). I knew going into Maryan's that it was a high-end fabric store, but was hoping to find some cottons or linens, that are generally sold for less than lace or silk. I was appalled to see that they were selling Liberty cottons for $100/m - Liberty cottons are the same everywhere, and anywhere else in the city you can get them for $45-50/m. The solid, plain-weave linens were running at $100/m as well (yes they were from Italy, but I've certainly seen high-quality linens at a lower cost). I didn't even bother looking at anything else. The shop is well-organized and clean, with a beautiful selection, but unless you're looking for hard-to-find highest-end lace, I would take a look somewhere else.
