We will be back for sure. Loved every single dish. It's rare in this city that everything is perfect and that not a single dish could be your favorite.Great service and fantastic cocktails.

Betty, the resident chef at Simpl Things for dinner and owner/head chef of Eats by Betty, is a culinary genius. Bringing a twist of Taiwanese to Toronto, Eats by Betty is dishing out some of the best eats we've had in a while. From the service, to the food, to the atmosphere, everything here is done right. We got the steak, the lobster, the tofu, and the tartare and each were absolutely incredible.

The staff were really nice. Really professional, too. We had an issue with one of the drinks being too spicy/medicinal/herbal for our taste, and were able to switch it out without fuss and with specifically catered recommendations based on our feedback. We also had the tartare on bone marrow. There were these lotus root chips included. They were sliced especially thin, which was cool. They were extremely crispy, and not at all oily. I’m curious how they achieved this — perhaps with the microwaving chip technique? After we were done eating the bone marrow, they gave us the option of a special tequila shot that you can drink from the bone — they pour the tequila down the bone, and you’re able to taste the alcohol mixed with the fat of the bone marrow, which gives the intensity of the tequila a nice, savoury cushion. I thought that was pretty innovative. We also had steak and Lou Rou fan (fatty pork and rice). Nice, though a little expensive to me. There was only a small bowl of that pork rice, but comparing to other places I’ve eaten it in Toronto, that seems to be standard. We also had these fried tofu baos, which is probably worth a try. Small portions, but I feel like that’s kinda in line with the theme of this restaurant.Nice atmosphere. Especially if you’re an alcoholic. But it’s cool in general if you can appreciate a small, cute bar. Slightly too cramped for me, but it’s not a big deal.

Hidden gem! The vibes are pleasant and while the food + drinks are a bit pricey they're so good! Our server was very helpful with recommendations, decor has a unique pretty ambiance with fun pops of colour and even the bathroom is cute. I'd definitely return to dine on the patio now that it's open with more friends (it's a little squishy inside with small tables, so I don't recommend big groups!). I really enjoyed my avocado toast.

Simpl Things is a different restaurant day and night. This review is about the nights by Eats by Betty. Chef Betty hails from Taiwan and her food although very Asian in flavours has the depth of good French technique. And her flavours are glorious and her presentations are very cool.It will sounds crazy by someone who likes, doesn’t love tofu to say it’s one of the best dishes on the menu. In the other side of the spectrum the bone marrow is out of bounds. The space is really cool. Reminds me of a hot spot in Brooklyn. Drinks are absolutely fantastic by Evelyn Chick who is a mastermind and wines are creative and delicious. There is a salad on the menu that’s so complex and it’s heavenly. Actually everything is. Popcorn mishrooms are a must. Now, I know and am very aware the kitchen is small but I think one dessert should be created. Sweet tooth’s like mine need to be fed.

We had the hungry fry up (pictured), two fried meatballs, tortellini, French toast, and a few drinks. The hungry fry up was great although the fried mash was pretty flavourless (just tasted like fried potato). The flavour of the tortellini was fantastic but it was completely undercooked- I get that it should be served ‘Al dente’ but it was very tough and chewy. The French toast was amazing, and so were the meatballs! The service was good, but they only had 2 options for beer, and charged $8 for a short can. The dining area is tiny and so are the tables, it felt crowded with only 10 people dining. If the owner reads this, you guys should use smaller water bottles on the tables (maybe wine instead of tequila).

I came here for drinks with some friends on a Saturday night. The 3 of us sat on their patio and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The popcorn mushrooms and brussel sprouts were delicious and the drinks were excellent. In particular, the “Not your average marg” was a hit - not too sour, spicy salt on the rim, and easy to drink. So much so, that it was ordered multiple times. Great vibe, great music, and great service. Looking forward to coming back to try more of the food and drinks!

This place is amazing!! Came here last night with 4 girlfriends to catch up over cocktails and had Cordell and Morgan serving us. First off, the vibes were immaculate and the furniture is perfectly curated for the space. Cordell made us handcrafted cocktails that were some of the best drinks we’ve ever had. Their chefs are seriously on another planet, the food is amazing as well. Thank you Cordell and Morgan for your amazing energy, these two made our experience all that much more perfect.

Pasta Cartl review: you can reserve a table for weekend brunch -- 'nuff said!Okay, fine, I'll elaborate on the excellent daytime menu: fish croquetas (2 for $9) are spectacular. And although the tagliolini ($19) is almost overwhelmed by a heavy-handed black peppering, the pasta is absolutely perfectly-textured with plenty of plump mushrooms and cheese. Difficult to twirl -- but I didn't regret it. Chef Cody knows flour. Going to return soon to try the sandwiches.Canned house-made soft drinks are excellent ($7) and served with a flourish.Simpl things (space) review: Gorgeous art deco inspired interior design. Comfy padded banquette. Nice main floor washroom.Eats by Betty, you're up next! (The evening Taiwanese restaurant... messaged them for a reservation as it seems impossible on the website)
