Terminal is small but simple, with small shops to grab a snack. Lots of picnic tables and a beautiful beach to stretch your legs while waiting for the next ferry. Great experience!

Ferry from Balfour to Kootenay Bay July 2, 12:20pm ferry. New process on MV Balfour ferry is ridiculous or perhaps the issue lies with certain captains. Arrived at the ferry terminal at least 30 minutes prior to sailing and only 2 cars, 2 trucks with trailers and a few motorcycles were ahead of us. However they have changed the process and now randomly load vehicles instead of in the order they arrived. How could this possibly be more efficient and why is how the ferry loads left to individual preference? So as you can guess we were not put on the ferry and at least 20 vehicles that arrived after us were loaded. When we talked to the ground crew they seemed as confused by the process as we were and told us that sending a complaint would accomplish nothing.

This is it folks! The world's longest free ferry! And BC Ferries should be proud of their boats and service. It is a beautiful ride across the lake of course, worth it to even leave your vehicle and walk on and sit on the upper deck and go across and back just to enjoy being on the lake!

Very well run ferry - and free! The boat is clean, lots of good seating inside and out. Be sure to check on the times and know what months they mean when they say season" or you may be waiting a while."

The alternative to the Salmo Creston highway from Nelson. Inland free ferry. Great trip up the west arm of Kootenay Lake. Doesn't save any time but it's a nice diversion. Very busy in summer but there's food onsite .Worth the detour if you want to explore more of the west Kootenays.

Sept 18, 2022. 6:30 AM sailing.. The woman directing the cars into the lanes on the ferry has no idea how to use hand signals. She had her arm out waist high, palm out and waving. I thought she was waving. She stopped both the car in front and me for proceeding onto the ferry and gave us A Talking To" because we did not stop when she signaled us. She was waving at us. I have done traffic control myself and if you want someone to stop you look at them
