I think they take advantage of the almost monopoly situation. So not really a bad service but they could be more considerate. Why no hourly rental?However, they did make us get wet suits for the cold water safety. Caring? Not sure. Later I realized, No one else was in the water with a Kayak. So I wondered later why they allowed us at all when other kayak rentals are still closed.But the worst part. The new guy forgot to give us life jackets! We went into water and realized we were missing them so we had to return to get them.Will I never use them again? Not sure. Because not many choices around and rates are reasonable.Make sure you are an experienced kayaker before using their service.

In the week we were in Tobermory, we rented from Thorncrest two times, first, for a casual paddle around the harbour and to see some shipwrecks, the second time for a more adventurous day-long paddle to the Grotto and back.We had excellent service both times. The staff were friendly and safety conscious, and gave us good advice about wind direction and waves/swell. For our longer trip, they accommodated our need to get out on the water early, since it was a 7-hour trip, and they suggested we file a float plan with the Coast Guard which was great advice that we followed, as Georgian Bay can be unpredictable. Their boats were in excellent shape. Whether you're looking to try sea kayaking for the first time, or are an experienced paddler, I wouldn't hesitate to rent from Thorncrest.

I rented a kayak. The people who rented them were nice. The kayak was good too. I don't remember the price and can't judge on it since I don't have a reference point.It is an amazing place to kayak. We went along the shore and it was beautiful places to stop by and spend time

During peak seasons it is very hard to call to book or ask question, as the staff are constantly speaking with customers in person. As busy as they are, they were very polite and informative when I visited the shop to rent a kayak for the day. I found this place to offer much more value, as I was renting a tandem kayak for my wife and I, for a very good price. Customer service was very friendly. Would recommend this to anyone looking to buy or rent equipment.

You ride em, you buy em...$1300 liability for $40 bikes that stay in the rain and unlocked (no one cares to steal them)Broken bikes, leaking kayaks, horrible customer service, rude and un knowledgeable.Do not rent bikes, kayaks or canoes here. For that matter don't even bother with this placeabsolutely no recommendation to go here, no knowledge on current/exciting places to go to in Tobermory.Thanks for the help no help!!!!

Rude staff front desk staff that cant seem to deal with the slightest amount of stress. The kayaks were in good shape and outfitted with all required safety equipment. You can ignore all their boundary instructions, i.e. go outside the bay, go to Flowerpot Island if you have time. In the end, use your best judgement, check the weather, know your abilities, insurance will take care of the rest. That being said, next time i'll bring my own kayak and stay out until sunset...

Took the one day kayak course including kayak with gear and had James as the instructor. He was very helpful and explained paddling terms in a simple manner that beginners can understand. Covered a number of kayak skills and recovery methods. Great value for money and will certainly use Thorncrest for our future kayak needs.

Beware. Access point parking lot I requested a shuttle for had been flooding for weeks and wasn't warned. Needless to say in my small car I couldn't get to the parking lot so I went back out the road to get reception to call and email them. No response for an hour and by that time I had already made alternate plans with the park. The park was the one who told me the access was flooding on and off for weeks. Outfitter still charged my card and offered little apology despite us having to cater to the shuttle drivers schedule which seemed to just be someone driving into work in the morning. I'd recommend taking your money elsewhere.

Friendly, helpful and punctual delivery and pickup service. Great tandem kayak.And kayaking around the Tobermory coastline is lovely. You will find some nice coves with the sun on the water so that even in (late) June you can swim without freezing.

While staying in Tobermory, we stopped early in the week to inquire about any guided tours .Yes they have them, but none were scheduled or met the required minimum (4 people). No problem, we said we would just come back later in the week and rent kayaks to explore on our own. Price was very reasonable and service was great. My wife and I were fitted to a kayak for our size and skill level, which was nice from the normal of being put into a tub of a kayak .We both have experience, so getting a nicer boat for the conditions was nice. They explained where was nice to paddle along the coast, and also into big tub bay to view the ship wrecks. Yes, you have to carry your kayak down the street to the boat launch, but my wife and I easily did two boats with all gear in one trip. Far more easier then we are used to at home of transporting, setting up, and launching .walking 150 yards to the water was easy.Overall very satisfied with the staff, equipment, price, and experience .Will come back again when in Tobermory!
